New Upgrade!

Thread Starter
I'm considering an upgrade in the LOW price range, (150 and lower!)
I wan't to get these.

http://www.frys.com/product/6800506?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG -- I have extra RAM, I just need an extra stick
http://www.frys.com/product/6241550?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

This totals to about 65$. I think that is an AWESOME deal, but I kinda want a six-core. Any way to get one and stay in the price range? Keep in mind I also may need to upgrade PSU if the CPU is 100 watts or up. frown.gif

might look like a deal, but well, what are you going to do with it? I once had a biostar mobo and they gave me some really bad customer support ... no bios updates on their website available etc, while I truly needed an update, but it wasn't available anywhere.

What are the timings on that 2Gb RAM module? I wouldn't buy it myself, but if you really don't see any other options than you should go for it ofc, just make sure everything fits and is compatible (most hardware is, but you never know with the cheap stuff...).

I've never had AMD, but I've seen lots of happy faces with their previous CPU's. If you can afford intel, go intel. If you can't, go AMD smile.gif

In overall: consider another mobo with an different RAM module...those would be your priorities right now with that kind of tight budget tongue.gif

good luck smile.gif

Your system specs in our Sig already list the components that you are considering getting.

What would you be replacing with the parts you have proposed? What will you be doing with the system?

What i agree with Ollii: Biostar does make some reasonable motherboards, but that one is just garbage. Get something in the $60 range, you wont regret it. RAM is so cheap now a days, just get a 4gb (2x2) name brand kit. Newegg has them starting at $20.

What i disagree with Ollii: At your price range, unless you already have some parts, Intel simply is not an option. Maybe with a $200-250 budget, maybe! But again, it depends on what youll be using it for.

Please post back with answers, and we can provide more specifics in regards to link to components, etc.
