Haha I know.. Searching the V3D245 on OCN ends with all posts from you. Seems like it will take some time to get this monitor in but I will keep you posted if I can strike a deal with my computer shop.

The Playstation 3D Display is a Monitor / kinda TV (component hookups but no TV tuner).

The purpose of the thing was to make 3D gaming more affordable for PS3 owners.

EDIT: Anyways a little bit of an update.. I have ordered the Viewsonic V3D245 today so I should have it sometime early next week. I will post a simple review for any who are interested.

if you can buy one of the screens and trial it for a while. Return the screen after a few game sessions for a full refund and then go and buy the other. If you dont like the second screen as much then rebuy the first screen as open box and get some savings.

Ok, I got my hands on the monitor this morning so I decided to test it out a little bit...

Aesthetics
The case is very plain... Not too much to say about it.
On the bottom right there are 5 touch sensitive buttons that do their job rather well.. I wish they weren't touch sensitive but that is a very small gripe on my end.

Color
[Connected by DVI-D]
The colors were very overblown and the monitor was wayy too bright at the beginning.. To be honest though, this was fixed with 20 minutes of playing around with the colors and a big RGB chart spanning this monitor and my old favorite Asus VH242H.

2D casual applications
--At first during my testing I was running all my applications at 1920x1080 @ 59hz.

Monitor seemed to perform the same as my old VH242H and maybe even a bit worse. Noticed a bit of choppiness while moving items around the screen.

--Then I noticed 120hz mode so testing was 1920x1080 @ 120hz

It might just be a combination of the refresh rate and 120hz but this monitor seems to be a new beast.. at 120hz everything just... 'feels' smoother.

3D testing
Viewing photos and other high contrast media pointed out a little bit of ghosting but nothing major.. Other than that, 3D seems just fine

Gaming
In 2D, I just feel like I am ahead of the curve. The games run smoothly and look nice.
In 3D, games can be a little dark but the monitor seems to keep all the pep 2D mode has and adds in an extra dimension.
In 3D PS3. I decided to test this out almost immediately on my PS3 and I can say the 3D is flawless. Playing Motorstorm apocalypse in 3D is a sight to behold.

Issues
3D is a bit gimmicky.
3D gave me a pretty bad headache after about 3 hours of play .

----All of the previous problems are nothing in comparison to my last problem.. 3D Video Mode....
3D Mode goes active when the monitor deems a 3D application starts. 3D mode is essentially a different view mode so all my previous color tweaks are gone and I see the original bright/washed out configuration.. I don't know why there needs to be a 3D mode with settings different than the normal operation mode.
**The real kicker is random things seems to trigger 3D Mode. A Windows 7 admin permission window and netflix are the 2 biggest ones.. For some reason they switch to 3D mode and I get blinded by the high brightness and then annoyed by the monitor going black to switch to my old mode.. There seems to be NO CONTROL over 3D mode and if someone knows something about disabling it or controlling manually, please lemme know

Overall
Pros:
+120hz mode is a delight
+Color can be quite nice if the time is spent
+3D capable with PC and PS3
+Tons of features for a small price (paid CDN $449.99) when compared to other competitive 3D displays

Cons:
----3D VIDEO MODE
-Initial color settings
-60hz mode is nothing special

Well, that was my little impromptu review. If anyone has any questions I will reply to the best of my ability.

I just hooked up my VG278H to my old PS3 and 3D seems to work via HDMI. The console claimed the display was 3D capable and from there on things went uphill. I'm in Wipeout HD Fury atm and it's definitely making good use of the 3D mode.
Well.. sorry for being late to the party though redface.gif

Please help - newbie here!

I've just got my VG278H, but my PS3 says that there's no 3D display connected?! What am I doing wrong?

HDMI from monitor to PS3, fire up GT5, 3D settings in Option Menu, not detected!

Please talk me through this!!!

Could it be my 4yr old (John Lewis) HDMI cable?

UPDATE - sorted. Was doing CUSTOM option from main PS3 DISPLAY options, had to do AUTOMATIC. GT5 now working..!

Merry Xmas all rolleyes.gif

Haha, not a big deal. I am pretty happy with this monitor aside from 3D mode kicking in all the time.. The only way to solve it is to disable stereoscopic 3D and reset the computer.. Then I can watch netflix and such without it going into blinding 3D MODE. Hopefully I (or someone) can find a better solution to this.

Thanks for chiming in though.. I was really considering the VG278H but now looking at my desk.. I doubt I would have been able to fit it!
