3 monitors on one 6970

Thread Starter
Hey all, I've got two 6970s running in xFire, and I just got my third Samsung SA550.

I want to keep my xFire ability, but it seems my current setup shows my third monitor as disabled, meaning I have to turn of xFire and use my third monitor through my second card.

The way I have it setup is as follows:

1st monitor: HDMI > HDMI
2nd monitor: HDMI > DVI
3rd monitor: HDMI > DVI

Based on some research I've done, I've gathered that in order to use the all three monitors on one card, I need to use an active display adapter, I suppose for the mini-display.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

*Also* on a total sidenote, anyone with a Logitech G510 have the double-space issues like I do?

Yes at least 1 Display has to be via Display Port.

Will I be able to get the active display adapter for one of the HDMI > DVI cables? Or will I not be able to use my HDMI > HDMI cable anymore?

Unfortunately, as much as I love these monitors, I'm baffled that they have HDMI and VGA only, and no DVI confused.gif

I have 3 adapters for my HD 6990. One of them is mini display > hdmi.

you need to have a DP or Mini DP connected to the third monitor to work. And it needs to be an ACTIVE adapter

Well, as long as it doesn't matter which is connected to the mini-display, I guess I'm good to go no matter which I choose.

Right now, my third monitor is connected to my second card via an HDMI to DVI cable. So all I'd have to do is get an ACTIVE DVI to mini-dp adapter and I should be good to go. Am I correct in assuming so?

Just to be on the safe side, will this serve my needs? All my monitors have a max res of 1920x1080, so would I really need to purchase an adapter for close to $100 for 2560x1600 that my monitors won't support?

There's no Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Active Adapter. You will have to use MiniDP to VGA active adapter is the only option.

This one is validated by AMD for Eyefinity. http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B101B-002B-UltraAV-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B0041O7XHY

By the way, what type of cable/adapter you are using for HDMI to DVI?

Have seen few people here commented that it worked but nothing specifics.  That adapter in your link above is $28 not $100.

I'm aware that it's $28 and not $100. Acell makes a model that's around $90-93 that provides up to 2560x1600 resolution, which would do me no good.

For the HDMI to DVI cable, I'm using an Auvio 6ft cable that I picked up from Radio Shack. Works great for its intended purpose.
