GTX 580 Heat Help

Thread Starter
After playing BF3 for 2 hours, I suddenly get blue lines all over the screen. Then BF3 exits and the screen goes back to normal. I think the card is getting hot because I can feel it getting hotter in my room as I play. However, the card is running at stock clocks with the high flow bracket installed. Right now I'm running evga oc scanner and the card is at 82C. Is that too hot for the card? My case is a HAF X and I'm running the latest beta drivers. Do you think I need to set up a custom fan profile to keep temps down?

thanks
Sable

is it at 82c at idle ? or playing bf3?
Is this a case of irony where Celsius is asking about temperature? anyway no 83c is no where near the temp for auto throttle plus when playing games i always set the profile to auto so it kinda cools my reference 580 never goes over 72c but i think nvidia cards in general can go to 100c without throttling.

maybe its your drivers might want to uninstall do a driver sweeper in safe mode and then reinstall the drivers.
Small wonder.

set it up

Low to high 80s is fine for the GTX 580. 90 is where you should start worrying.

Try setting up a custom 1:1 fan profile (e.g. 60% at 60'C, 80% at 80'C, etc.) and see if that helps. The reference GTX 580s are designed to increase their fan speeds mostly in the 80'C range especially towards 90'C, so the thermal performance is comparatively poor but favors low noise wherever possible.

The GTX 580 is rated up to 98'C on the GPU before throttling so below 90'C is fine.

It's at 82C while running evga precision at full load.

I'm running the 290.36 drivers, do you think I should just roll back to the latest official drivers?

if you want to lower temps use mx-4 for example
Also use msi afterburner 2.2.0 beta 9 to control your fan speed

I used msi afterburner to raise the fan speed a little and was able to play through the rest of the game without any issues.
thanks guys, +rep
