[DH]Official: AMD's Radeon HD 7900 series launch date confirmed - Page 7

Does AMD Graphics have support with programs like Photoshop? I've been hesitating to get them because nVidia has some support to apps like PS.

Unless you are an absolute heavy hitting professional photoshop user, and I dont know if you are, then a GPU makes NO difference at all in PS.

You do realize the Nvidia cards help with post processing in PS to help speed up times right? But that really only matters like said before if you are doing some heavy editing.

Yes, I will be designing or editing high-resolution images.

Thanks!

Huh??

Clock speed has nothing to do with a new architecture. There is no rules that state a GPU when running a totally new architecture is going to run slower if it is clocked lower nor does any laws state that a GPU is weak because it has to be clocked higher than the last generation.

Maybe the 28nm process affords AMD the ability to squeeze even more performance out of the card and not push any thermal envelope.

There's no reason for AMD to give the 79xx series high clock speeds if they didn't need to. It's in their best interest to have them as low as possible (while still being competitive or reaching their projected targets), as it means less power consumption, better yields etc.

Nvidia is great about supporting professional programs. Quadro cards are essentially the same as Geforce cards besides the drivers, and that is essentially what you are paying for (the drivers/support for professional programs).

there is no reason for them to clock it lower then 1Ghz if their architecture is stable enough to run at 1ghz.

He already listed one. If they don't need a high gpu clock to produce great performance they can drop the voltage when using a lower clock speed and provide better power efficiency yet keep great performance. This of course given their platform actually performs that well.

bumping it up to 1GHz is great and all. But it needs a reference point. If a 6970 can do more work in 1MHz than a 7970 can. Then the 1GHz is only to make up for the fact that "per instruction" it gets less done.

1GHz on an i7 is nothing compared to 1 GHz on a celeron. So it really depends. Is it matching it clock for clock thus over improvement no matter what? Or is it slower than previous gens clock for clock and needs to run faster to make up for it?
