iTunes 7 and horrible sound quality

If you've just recently upgraded to iTunes 7 and realized that it has horrible sound quality (hisses, crackles and pops throughout all your music) and just saw iTunes got through your music collection to determine gapless playback or something, don't panic! At first I thought this gapless playback check had crippled my music somehow (early versions of iTunes, like 2.1 or so, had a bug that deleted your music lol) but then I saw a light, if you're having a similar problem it seems that the iTunes 7/Quicktime installer sets Quicketime's default audio size to 8 bit instead of 24 bit, on my computer it still said 24 bit but it clearly was not so.

To fix this open up Quicktime (if you cant find a .mov or .mpeg video file go to Program Files, Quicktime, QuickTimePlayer) go to Edit, Preferences>Quicktime Preferences and go to the audio tab, be sure to set everything as follows:

Rate: 192kHz
Size: 24bit
Channels:Set to be equal to the speaker setup you have

Apply and then OK and close Quicktime and iTunes and then start up iTunes and see if that's helped.

Also, itunes wont output to the Line Out for me, but windows and winamp do... no matter what i set the speakers to.

EDIT: OMG THAT FIXED IT! I edited the quicktime stuff and ut works now! I LOVE YOU

Mine was set to 48KHz and 16-bit stereo. Now Ive got it set right. Not a huge difference but the voices do seem a little clearer.

Nice job. You should make this a FAQ

Another reason to hate itunes, the only reason I keep using my 6.4.3.2.56.1.354.4..39829723986723987492832.3.123. 4123...2342143 verison is because I've already imported everything. When I close itunes, my aim/gaim and browser lock up, for 30 seconds, but nothing else locks up.

What would you set it to for best onboard sound quality? Just wondering for the time being...

You can set it to what you want, just the higher you set it, the more CPU time will be used.

Thanks a lot for this, I was beginning to think something was wrong with my X-Fi or my Mobo as I had just changed out the mobo and this starting happening.
