saw a video on youtube once where a guy used a dryer vent tube thing. Ran it from the window right on to his cpu cooler. put towels around the bottom of the window opening to black cold air from coming into the room

Doesn't running your PC near an open window during winter raise the risk of condensation, though?

maybe but I know the air is dyer when its cold. That's why you get chapped lips. Also I work with rubber at work (tire builder) and our hands get so dry in the winter they start to crack biggrin.gif

True, the humidity is lower, but you would still have to insulate your components like crazy if you did a sub-zero cooling run even in a 0% humidity environment, wouldn't you?

Could someone else provide their opinion on this? I'm only relying on common sense and the few grains of knowledge that remain from my highschool physics/chemistry classes, so I might be overlooking something.

That might be true but my case isn't in the window it's close enough to grab the air before it gets settled in the room.

I don't think it would be any worse the leaving it open during a summer day either though. I have no scientific proof though biggrin.gif

If your really concerned about condensation you should hit up one of the guys who use liquid nitro they would know more thumb.gif

Just for clarification i wasn't the one who recommended the window just shared my youtube memory thumb.gif

edit: I get what your thinking though. A cold glass gets condensation on it on a hot day.

I run with my side panel off as to make no true airflow necessary which allows me to flip all my fans around. I have my two top 200mm fans pointed at the motherboard which drastically cools the VRM's and RAM. And since there's no true airflow with the side off, having the fans like that doesn't disrupt anything. I have water cooling but if you have a tower cooler, I would assume that having extra fans pushing air towards the cooler fans could help airflow through your cpu cooler. As long as you're safe around your hardware, (ie. not drinking an open cup of coffee and setting right next to the case) then there's nothing wrong with it and if you set up the fans correctly, it can give much lower temperatures overall with motherboard components that normally get almost no airflow.

well fact is, that if you leave the side open, the airflow is just bad cause there is no actual airflow = no real circulation. a closed case with proper fans is always better

What? Fact? I get better temps with the Side off. If this was a fact then open air designs would be bad
