sony hx100v OR sony NEX-3k

hello guys, i have 15 days to decide which came to buy, im totally confused between these two cams, both of them have almost same price tag so i need some good suggestions.
last cam i had was sony h9, it was good but terrible when it came to low light or indoors.
my need is zoom+ good picture quality in lowlights/indoor.
im not a professional guy, i just need a cam with great picture quality,

and i can sacrifice my zoom need.

so i want to know which cam to buy..

thanks.

The NEX will blow away the HX100V in terms of performance, image quality and low light performance. The bigger sensor makes it that much better.

The downfall is the 18-55mm lens doesn't reach very far, but because it has interchangeable lenses you could get a 55-210mm for a longer reach. Or if you want even better low light performance and some nice bokeh then the 50mm f1.8.

i have no idea about the lenses and i dont want to spend mmore money on lenses,

and yes nex 3 bigge sensor will blow away hx100v no doubt about it.

but ill have to sacrifice my zoom need. frown.gif

so the lense that comes with the nex 3 is it good for long run? if i stick to this lense and dont spend money changing it?

and is it for all purpose like close ups, indoor pics, outdoor etc?

the stock lens on the nex3 (assuming its the 18-55 and not the 16mm) is fine for day to day. it is basically the exact same range as any kit lens on a basic DSLR. you can try say a rebel or nikon d3100 with a 18-55 and it will be the same "zoom".

As an HX100V owner...you should pick up the NEX-C3K just for the better quality pictures for your specific needs. If you decide that you need better zooming...then you have that additional interchangeable lense option. As for me...I feel the HX100V fits my needs perfectly. Just wanted a replacement for my old DSC-W50 digital camera and HDR-TG1 video camera. That's where the HX100V seemed to come in and fit the middle ground for picture/video quality.

Here's a random photo with the HX100V (just went outside and took this picture on my front yard)... Photo (Click to show)

If you need more examples from each camera then you should check out youtube...cause that what I did before I bought the camera.

thanx for the reply, pic u took is great, and for video recroding hx100 has hull HD 1080p mode while nex 3 only records at 720p, now i dont have a big screen with me, max is 32" so should i be worrying about 1080p and 720p?

Video recording shouldn't be something to worry about since photograph quality is your priority. The 1080p is a nice addition to the camera (check YouTube to see how it looks), but realize that you'd need a pretty big flash card to support long duration videos. The video recording in general is great but it can get a little gritty under low light conditions (you can't beat a real quality camcorder). It's actually way better than my HDR-TG1 HandyCam camcorder. If you want your camera to be able to support high resolution video recording, then the HX100V might be the choice to make. However, regular 720p video capturing might be the best choice for your needs. This is why I explained how the HX100V is like the middle ground...it takes great pictures and videos but it can't compete against dedicated quality DSLR cameras and camcorders.

Recording video at 720p vs 1080p isn't a good comparison of video quality. It's just a measure of resolution, like megapixels. I'd rather take the NEX for video as its larger sensor will lead to better video quality, just as how my point and shoot does 1080p video but I'd take a Canon 1100D @ 720p any day for video over my own point and shoot.

thanks for the replies,
ive decided that ill buy nex 3.
i want to know couple of things.
1st there are different models in NEX 3 series, like 3C and 3K, whats the difference between them? nex 3K is available in my market so i want to know the difference between them.

2nd i saw its specs and it says there is no image stablization, this means pics wont be steady ? if its true than they will come out blurry.,.?

correct me if im wrong.

thanks

NEX-3C doesn't have eye-fi while the NEX-3 does. The K at the end just means kit. It applies to both too.

The image stabilization is built into some of the lens. Depends on the lenses, but the kit lens does have it.

For them to come out blurry it will depend on what and how you're shooting as well as the shutter speed and focal length.
