Don't forget that if you are a console gamer, you'd probably own a laptop/desktop anyway too

You might, but that doesn't mean it's worth using for gaming.

For debates sake stick to buying one versus buying the other.

Lifeshield, you need to compare them component for component. Equivalent GPU, Equivalent CPU etc. Then really would be little difference between the two. In theory the only fair comparison between PC Gaming and Console gaming is whatever the next gen will be (no doubt DX10 capable but not necessarily DX11). The next XBOX and PS will probably retail at about £400.

Are you really going to run a game like Battlefield 3 on a X1950 on a 32" HDTV?

Also who in their right mind would buy hardware that's 6 years old to run games today? It's not a comparison of which is better via hardware specifications. It's a comparison of which costs more to upkeep "today".

Hey don't judge. I've owned a 32" HDTV for about 4 years now. Better than buying a 40" HDTV and burning my eyes out because I don't have adequate viewing distance. rolleyes.gif

IGN = Trolls. And what the hell? Spend £56 on one stick of ram when you can have 2x4GB that are faster and cheaper for a lot less?.. And the CPU was sort of pointless.. A dual core SB cpu would be good too.

Back OT, I always thought of PC gaming to cost about the same as console, assuming one buys a fair amount of games on the console. I mean PC games can be had for £15 when their console counterparts would still be £35. redface.gif

So... your going to buy a £200 console, then what? play it on nothing? add the cost of TVs you bunch of idiots...
:)PC gamers get to keep their games every generation. I still play games I played on windows 98.
PC gamers have a bigger backlog of older titles, cheaper.
PC gamers have console emulators (my ps2 drive is dieing)

Consoles were fun when they had split screen, less so now.

I agree this build/comparison is messed up, but if you are frugal both platforms aren't bad.
AMD, I give up.

My gaming pc replaces my console, but it is also where I do all my university work, CAD work, trading and general internet browsing. Whats a dell and a ps3, £400 + £200? I have no idea, but you can make a gaming for that
Edit: Actually a basic enough Dell worth owning with a monitor is about £420 by the looks of it, and the ps3 £200.

This is so often overlooked. You already need a PC or a laptop, I know many people now are looking towards laptops as replacements for PC's, but even with a laptop, if you spend a few hundred extra you go from a facebook/email machine into something capable of playing games.

PC gaming is not expensive if you look at it from the perspective that you already need a PC anyway.
