They're 2 completely different entities.

Computers have no design limit...Consoles do.

It's easy to max any game out on a console...Try maxing out a console game on a PC...Might use @20% of it's resources.

The issue is that making games for JUST the PC is not a profitable venture, period.

Making games for a console is just about as easy as hitting the easy button.

Seriously flawed logic in this article.

my point was that using settings of equal quality level to a console on a PC doesn't require much of a PC. A crappy gaming oriented rig that costs as much as a console can easily achieve the graphics quality of a console. IMO the hardware was never the issue, its just that companies with the influence to steer game developers want better control over the audience.

I think pc gaming is more expensive, since you can't trade in a pc game and recover some of your money for the next purchase

I can't understand people in this thread having a thought that PC is as cheap as console gaming.

It just blows my mind.

It's only costly when you go high end.

That part is true, but a single hardware component can be sold off for more than what you'd get for 5 of your console games.

A great point that helps negate the cost of upgrading hardware.

The point is to dispel the myth that PC gaming needs to be quite as expensive as some make it out to be. The reality is that it just doesn't need to be.

Sure buying yourself the latest i7 CPU and 580 GPU may cost you a pretty penny but it's not a neccessity to, never has been, and for a good few years yet probably never will be.

Does a console include a Screen? No. Do consoles "max out" games? No as it is a fixed platform, you get what your given.

When the consoles of this HD era became available, people felt it was required to buy £400-700 HDTV's to go with them. So factor in also when the 360/ps3 became available they were around £250-400.

So anywhere between £650 and £1000+ would have been spent. Games on consoles especially high profile ones are £35+ also. So console gaming is not cheap either.
A decent PC which will play games at "console" quality will cost you around £550, a screen £150, kb/mouse £25 = £725.

Remember that console gamers are content with their set hardware so "console quality" is acceptable to the masses.

A PC simply does more for your money.

Also when the new consoles arrive I reckon you could buy a £150 GPU, and spend £240 on a new CPU/Mobo/Ram combo. Woh! that's alot. Actually it's not when you factor in a console lifecycle is usually 7 yrs+ by that time most of us wouldn't really blink when purchasing some few upgrades to stay on par and above the console generations, with a relatively similar price mark as the console.
