Need a new GAMING headset

Thread Starter
so guys i broke my Creative 30$ headset two days ago, and now i need a new one, keep in mind that i am not a music freak, but i listen to music from time to time, so its basically a gaming headset thats what i need, and most importantly, i need it to have a mic since i have been playing saints row the third and a bunch of other games in co-op with some of my freinds on steam, so i need that to be included with the headset, my budger is 120$, tonz of people recommended me a logitech g35, should i get it ?, does it sound good and is the surround sound good ?
thanks for your time
I have been using the Logitech G35 for nearly 2 years.
The Good: The cord is plenty long and braided, it doesn't get in my way. The headset is very comfortable, even after 3-4 hours of continuous use (and I wear glasses). I would estimate is has a good ~60% of sound isolation (If I'm wearing them with nothing playing, I can still converse with someone in the room). I've even used them for hearing protection when going to the gun range.

The Bad: It uses a USB 2.0 connector instead of a 3.5mm headphone & 3.5mm microphone plugs. Using Windows 7, I have to right-click the volume icon in the taskbar, click "Playback Devices", then set my Logitech X-530 5.1 desktop speakers or my G35 headset as "default playback device."
I've also noticed a latency in the mic transmission. In Teamspeak, I have been talking when someone else starts to speak and through their system, I could hear myself about 2 seconds later.
Also, this started about 1.6 years after purchase, but the black ear cushioning has cracked and started peeling off in flakes. The actual foam cushioning is still in tact. Very similar to how in older cars, normal wear and sun will crack leather seats.

If you're not looking for an exceptional sound you can bet on the Razer Orca as well, they have been quite successful lately, best bang 4 bucks.
Or, if you're willing to raise your budget by 10$, the Chimaera could be a good choice, with the advantage of no wires at all.
I have the Megalodon atm but the wire is so uncomfortable!

Turtle beach headsets seems quite good too but I never tried a pair personally.

I bought those and very please with them. try them out and if you don't like them return them.I bough the 2 years replacement if they break. I also got a set for my son and loves them.

Grab some headphones with a clip-on mic. much better for your $$$.
Grab a nice pair of open back headphones with this mic. It clips onto the headphone wire. I have heard this pair of headphones are really nice. Someone even attached a microphone to the side of them if you look at the pictures tongue.gif

This. Don't get a 'gaming headset' or any kind of headset for that matter. Headphones always have better sound quality for the price, clip-on mic included. I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions if you ask nicely.
Honestly there's no reason whatsoever to get a gaming headset.

Wow are you people serious? Don't listen to any of these suggestions OP. They are all bad.

If you buy any of these, you are overpaying for the quality of product you are getting, they are all garbage. Headsets are poorly and cheaply made, so they break extrememly easy. Their audio quality is pretty poor as well.

Your best bet is to get a studio quality pair of headphones and a stand alone mic, sounds like you already have that.

No one who has been around here for a while and knows what they are talking about will ever recommend you a logitech, razer, turtle beach, etc or any audio with a usb connector. Period.

Whats your budget? What kind of music do you listen to?

Cheap: JVC HARX700 http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HARX700-Precision-Sound-Headphones/dp/B0013OWPV4
Best Bang for your buck: AD 700 (open design so best sound positioning and sound stage, but lower bass because of it)
Good: HD 280 pros
Amazing: http://www.amazon.com/Ultrasone-PRO-550-Professional-Headphones/dp/B000YDYEDW/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323786831&sr=1-1-spell (need an amp though)

He is mainly gaming, he is going to want open back headphones, they give better and more accurate sound for gaming. If he was a more avid music listener, then closed cans would be good. But if he wants to game, he wants some open back headphones.
Also, the budget was listed in the OP.
