overcocking the nvidia geforce 8200gs

Thread Starter
he guys, i have been interested in overcloking my PC for quit some time now and i first wanted to overclock my core 2 quad Q8200 yorkfield
but after some researching on the net i noticed that you can only improve it by 15% and is not worth the risk.
but i am planning on overclocking my nvidia geforce 8400gs
but am completely new to overcloking in general. can anyone help me with this?
i am planning on buying a new graphics card soon so it doesn't really matter if it breaks in the following weeks.

just another question.:
if i overclock my graphics card to much can it damage my PCI slot?

thank in advance. peter

overclocking your gpu wont damage the slot or the motherboard. It will just decrease the lifespan of the gpu if you run it at hot temperature and over voltage.

Get MSI Afterburner (google it) its one of the best overclocking softwares for gpus.
Start by increasing the core clock by 5 mhz steps and use MSI Kombustor to check stability.
(MSI Kombustor comes with the Afterburner installer)

Remember to record the stock speed FPS in MSI Kombustor so you can compare the difference with the overclock.

Your Q8200 is good for gaming, if I were you i would just buy a better card to go with it

ps: will a card of 1GB GDDR5 do for shogun or crisis?
and should i take in consideration the fact that i only have a 400w power supply?

an HD6770 1GB GDDR5 will run without problems on a 400watt power supply,
as long as you dont have a lot of harddrives and other stuff that use power.
It costs about $100 brand new, and $80 for used.
the HD5770 and HD6770 can play all games at high settings on a single monitor.

If you want something that doesnt require external power and will surely run even on 250 watt powersupply,
look for an HD5670 or Geforce GT440.

Even a used 9800GT for $50 will be a huge upgrade, like 10 times faster than the 8400GS.
