Good GPU for E8400

post #1 of 16
Thread Starter
Hello guys,

Right now I've got an E8400, 6GB RAM and a GT430 (it's so ****ty).
I'm looking for a upgrade, any suggestions.
Nvidia or AMD? I have no preference.

Thank You thumb.gif

I had a rig with almost the exact same specs. I started with a 8800gtx and upgraded to a gtx 280; never had any bottleneck with the e8400 OC'ed to 3.9ghz.

Not positive as far as current cards how good you could go before bottleneck...

The best one you can afford! Even if you experience some bottle necking in certain games that use more then 2 threads the better card will yield the better performance.

Right now Id say without knowing your budget;

high end - HD6950, GTX570 (Great price per performance)

mid - 560ti, 6870 (If your budgets a bit lower)

I was going to ask the same thing, I have an e8500 coming soon to replace my e4300 and dont want to spend too much on a temporary card, but i was the best bang for the buck without a bottleneck.

I'm currently using an e8500 on my secondary rig with a HD5870, used to have Crossfire 4670's in it. OC'd to 4.2GHZ and haven't really had a bottleneck. Only time the CPU would be a bottleneck was in very CPU intensive and not so much GPU intensive games like GTA4 and Bad Company 2. Other than that it has worked just fine.

I would just save the money and get a quad (i series) and a new motherboard to drop it in. Dual cores are old hat these days.

go for a GTS 450 or HD5770/6770.

you can also get a GTX550ti but there is a possibility of the e8400 bottlenecking it in quadcore games like BF3 and GTA IV
