Apple 27" monitor with GTX580

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I have a Dell U2711 which I like as a monitor. However, it's not very nice to look at and I'm not a fan of the antiglare screen.

I would like an Apple LED Cinema Display which uses a Mini DisplayPort (not the Thunderbolt one). My next PC will have an ASUS GTX580 ROG Matrix graphics card and I was wondering if any of you know if the display will work with it?

Any experience with the Apple display running on a PC would be welcome too.

Thanks

hcetech

Yes, it will work perfectly. You do need a mini-displayport to displayport cable though (which is $15).

I don't think such a connection actually exists at present. Apple are still selling the LED Cinema displays, in addition to the thunderbolt ones, so I think I'll just pick one of those up.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

Here it is.

This cable will ALSO work with the Thunderbolt display, since Thunderbolt and Mini-displayport are compatible;

"And because Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, the video standard for high-resolution displays, any Mini DisplayPort display plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. To connect a DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, or VGA display, just use an existing adapter."
