Which 6950s Can I unlock?

Thread Starter
So, I'm building a new computer and I was getting the GTX 560 ti 448 Classified, but in the benchmarks the 6950 2GB (Stock) was superior.

So I was wondering which 6950 can I unlock?

I will appreciate if you could link me to it. [Amazon or Newegg].

Thanks!

You have the best shot with a Sapphire 6950 TOXIC.

Currently deactivated on Newegg (not sure when or if it's ever coming back):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102951

The Dirt3 Edition also has decent odds, but not as good % unlock success rate as the Toxic:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DVI-I-SL-DVI-D-PCI-Express-100312-3SR/dp/B0055Y66A4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323799420&sr=8-1

The MSI Twin Frozr II (maybe III) was also an occasional success FWIR, with even less odds than the Dirt3:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R6950-II-CrossFireX-Eyefinity/dp/B005HR0G5K/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323799553&sr=1-3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127588

At this point the best bet with a non-ref 6950 is probably the Dirt3 Edition. The Dirt3 Edition still has a BIOS switch AFAIK while the Twin Frozrs do not. If the Toxic reactivates grab that; BIOS switch with the highest unlock rate of non-reference cards.

I unlocked two of them so they probably are biggrin.gif

If you can find toxics then get those, they almost certainly unlock and they're beasts anyway (not that TF's aren't, I love msi) biggrin.gif

Yes, there are reports of the MSI Twin Frozr IIIs and Asus DCIIs being responsive to shader unlocking. Be advised however that these cards do not have a BIOS switch so if you're using a BIOS flash to try the unlock, failure could very well mean a nice paperweight.

There's a safer method that involves "editing" the BIOS to 1536 shaders rather than unlocking which you'd be best advised to try on cards that don't have the BIOS switch.

Additionally, make sure you get a 2GB 6950.

Can't you just use atiwinflash?

But probably a ref 6970? Custom cards and coolers cost more than reference ones of course, but the TFII is probably better bang for buck than TFIII.
