Asus GTX 570 direct cuII edition SLI MAD OVERHEATING PROBLEM

Thread Starter
Hi there everyone, I have recently purchased two gtx 570s for SLI. They are the Asus true slot cooler editions and are very good (on their own) I have just sent them back.

I did this because the top GPU would instantly soar to 90'C in any games, with the bottom staying at a cool 45'C. Madness.

The thing is when in SLI these cards have no room whatsoever to breath between them. The top cards intake is just no doing anything because of the lack of space. So, now I a, feeling that the best way to combat this is to buy cards with reference coolers when going SLI, it just doesn't work when dealing with these cards. The reference cooler will intake from the front not the top (correct me if I am wrong) and output via the back of the case only.

I would love to go with msi twin frozr editions but I fear that the top card will have th exact same problem. What do people think, is there anyone who successfully runs SLI gtx 570's with non reference coolers and has good temps? If so can they show me?

Thanks guys.

Or you just buy 3 way SLI boards that uses the first and third slots for 2 way SLI. That way there's a full slot between the two cards, like for example on my Rampage III Formula.

PCIe x1
PCIe x16
blank
PCIe x16
PCIe x1
PCIe x16
PCI

I've got my DirectCU II card in the first PCIe x16 slot and since there's a 4 slot gap to the third one there's room for a full slot gap between my DCII and second card.

MSI makes the best coolers, plus they are WAY smaller only 2 slots not 3 1/2 like ASUS.

The SLI configuration of my mobo is great. Plenty of room between my Lightnings to breathe!
