Few questions for others to help me decide whether to buy Skyrim

I need advice from someone who has played a lot of this game. There are a few sticking points for me that make me hesitate.

1. I have played Morrowind, and was turned off by the level-scaling and the feeling that you never really grow above your surroundings as everything automatically levels up to you. Furthermore stronger 'end-game' monsters would spawn in the starting games' dungeons which felt like an immersion-killer. I was informed that in Oblivion this issue was even worse and more blatant, and so I opted never to try Oblivion.

People tell me 'oh, there are mods that fix that' but this is anathema to me; basically, I believe in playing a game as it was intended to be played, regardless of how poor some of the developers' design choices were. That means no gameplay mods, at least on the 1st playthrough. To do otherwise is like reading a non-canon fanfic adaptation of some famous novel. I don't care how well written the fanfic is, it's not the authors' work. (In case anyone asks I'm fine with graphical mods, though, as graphics aren't the substance of a video-game).

So my question is: how well is the level-scaling handled in Skyrim?

2. How serious and numerous are the remaining bugs post-latest-patch in the PC version? How many of said bugs are fixable with third-party fixes? Are there future patches planned to target these issues? I've no idea what the bugs are, I just know from reviews that the game contains quite a few of them.

That's it. Answers to these questions will help me decide whether to ask for this for xmas. smile.gif

I'd wait till thge GOTY to by Skyrim.

Right now too many bugs and fps performance issues that still need to be ironed out.

In one year's time, tghose bugs/performance issues will hopefully be gone and there will be many mods to tailor the game to your taste.

The level scaling is more like Morrowind/Fallout 3, not Oblivion, so it's better in that sence.

Also if you wait for the GOTY Edition you'll get the DLCs for free.

I would pick it up now.. I have 105 hours into the game and I'm still going strong.

The leveling is still a little off, at times you feel like a skeever (like the old sewer rats) could kill you, at other times you feel invincible. At the beginning of the game it's fairly good though. It didn't really feel mismatched till level 22 or so.

There is only one mod that is really required to play the game stable. The 4GB mod. Prior to this I would CTD every 20-30 min or when taking a screen capture. After running the 4GB launcher I've only had one CTD in probably 40+ hours of playing.

The bugs aren't that bad, I've fallen through a few sections of mountain on pc but other than that it's cool.

It's the best deal for a new game, soooo much gameplay.

But yah, in hindsight these games are better 6 months to a year later with the dlc and patching all up to snuff. But it's a fantastic game despite the buggies.

I fell through a dock once and saw a mammoth fall from the sky, then moonwalked an died. Thats the extent of the bugs Ive seen. Performance wise without mods 60fps and 45-50 fps in whiterun and solitude. And I agree with the earlier posts level scaling is like morrowinds, not oblivion

I don't know how Oblivion is different to Morrowind, I was just told that Oblivions' is "worse than Morrowind". It's not the mismatching that gets me, but the senseless power that some monsters can possess that destroys the immersion for me. I think weak creatures should have a level cap or be level locked, like the Skeever that was mentioned.

The real sticking point though is just whether you feel you're gaining in strength. In short, are there low level and high level areas, or are they all just level-you areas?

Does Skyrim have respawns in locations when you revisit them, like Morrowind had?

Seems like the main point of the game is to mod it and that's what people like it for most...

[EDIT] I should also ask: how bad is the PC interface if you're playing with mouse and keyboard? I've heard it's v. bad.
