Etron USB 3.0 Controller Issues, Controller/Driver Recommendation?

Thread Starter
I'm seeing a lot of issues on the Etron USB 3.0 controller. Basically screaming to stay away (it's in a few ASRocks).

Which controller should I get and what mobo brand has them if USB 3.0 stability is very important to me.

I'd also like to plug USB 2.0 into my front USB 3.0 ports and have them work properly as USB 2.0 (not cause BSOD, freezing, not recognizing, etc.)

Also, what's the easiest way to know what controller is in the MOBO (since newegg doesn't have it in details)?

Thanks

The NEC controller is the best, partly because NEC it is the oldest in the USB 3.0 business and they had several years to optimize they drivers and release new versions of their chip. The chip has been rebranded to Renesas.
ASMedia is the next good one.
There are also others: Fresco Logic, VLI, AMD.
In my experience Etron is the worst one, it could cause random BSOD, lag, high latency, devices not being recognized, not able to overclock, Etron drivers are sometimes detected as malware or virus.

I'm not saying that with NEC or ASMedia you would have no issues, but less.
Usually all mobo manufacturers are specifying the type of USB 3.0 controller in the motherboard manual or at their website.
Currently only Gigabyte and Asrock are having some mobos with Etron.

My motherboard has Etron controller and it is working fine. If you are not afraid to use Etron controller download its driver from Etron website and install it.

I have no clue about the brand in which motherboard, but I have to say this :

In french, Etron means crap(or manure)

So yeah, just get anything other than that and you should be fine rolleyes.gif
I'm using the onboard USB 3.0 on my Asus P8p67 Pro and it's working flawlessly since start, the rear ports are easy to spot, and the front usb 3.0 on my corsair case works very great too !
