The chip is not because the way the game is using it. If you want to look at as bottlenecking, it is the cpu bottlenecking the game. Not the cpu bottlenecking the cards. The game is maxing out some of the architecture in the chip. Therfore the chip is bottlenecking the game. The only way for chip to bottleneck the cards is if chip is at full load and causing the cards to not perform to potential because of lack of throughput. Yes BD does bottleneck some games because of architecture not being used correctly. In other cases like BF3, or other heavy multithreaded games which take advantage or the architecture of FX therefor better gameplay. Once win7 patch or win8 comes out to better utilize FX architecture this bottleneck in chip will decrease and will see performance increase in gaming along with other non multithreaded apps.
As for the CPU/NB and HT yes you wil see some performance gain in overclocking but they do not cause bottleneck. If you look at CPU/NB and/or HT as a chip themselves then you may see it better. Say you take 2500K and use it for gaming not overclocked, you will have good gameplay. If you overclock the chip, you will see performance gain in gameplay. This does not mean that the chip was bottlenecking before you overclocked. You are just getting better throughput.
Hope this helps clear up confusion.

ahhhh so the cpu sucks, that's all. has nothing to do with the cards...

gotcha.

thanks!

Yep the 2500k will let the card(s) run at their full potential and let them play games like they are ment to be played. A rumored software patch wont fix AMD's IPC problem as it has been that way for years now.

CB single threaded performance is what i was referring to(i thought this was a given with the respectful scores of 1.22 and 2+, but i guess not rolleyes.gif) Games enjoy high single threaded performance. Actually, all programs enjoy high singlethreaded performance & IPC. I don't give a rats ass if BD has 8 slow cores; 4 or even 6 very fast SB cores are much faster. Most games show no slowdown with dual cores(with the exception of extremely CPU limited games), quad cores, hex cores, or 8 cores in between different architectures. So you can take the multithreaded part of it and throw it out the window. We're comparing a quad to an octo anyways, so core count is out of the window all together.

For the bolded part, did your fanboyism blind you and make you forget we're discussing MULTI-GPU setups, where your'e CPU will be PEGGED in most instances, requiring every bit of CPU power you've got. Which in turn is where the bottleneck comes in, simply because all the power that that nice multi GPU setup requires, won't be there with BD. Even at 5ghz. Hell 6ghz BD is a worst gaming chip then a stock 2500k rofl.

It seems normal for slightly overclocked GTX 580s and stock i5 2500K. Overclock that i5 to 4.5GHz+ and push those GTX 580s to 900MHz clock speed and you should be seeing ~P12,000 on your 3DMark 11 score.

You should make a new thread in the intel cpu forum so that more intel users with experience and similar setups can give you guidance..

That's normal considering the CPU is very lightly overclocked and the cards as well.

You should be able to get around 12k if you OC the CPU to ~4.8 GHz and OC the cards to ~925-950 MHz core.

Good choice on the i5 2500k. Overall so far bulldozer has been a huge disappointment to gamers maybe when the patches release they will be better. But intel is a really amazing chip. I personally love amd and never had a problem so that is why i am moving up to a amd rig. I always think if something works for you dont change it
