Hi, and welcome to the forum

AM2 for sure. Socket 939 is nice, but outdated. No upgrade possibilities left.

Performance should be about the same.. . DDR2667 will be beyond the CPU speed anyways, and give a alot of headroom. DDR2 667 will outperform DDR400/PC3200. DDR2 800 can be compared with DDR500/PC4000

Even is socket 939 is a hair faster (and it won't be much more than that), I'd still go for AM2

The issue with AM2 is though that many boards (and I think ASUS is one of them) are picky with RAM; the corsair is a good pick though and should run fine in that ASUS board.

I have both 939 and AM2 3800 systems right now, both running on ASUS SLI-32 boards. I'm running DDR2-667 value ram on the AM2 and have hit 2.8ghz, just did'nt have time to stabilize it, 2.7ghz ran fine. My ram does fine at 800mhz. You can always buy one stick 800, now and get the second one later but AM2 will be a better choice in the long run.

YEah..getting one gig now and add the second one later is a good idea also. however, I think DDR2 667 should be ok also.
