Athlon 64 x2 4000+ Overclock?

Thread Starter
I have a nice cooling fan on it and want to overclock the CPU from 2000 mhz to 2400 mhz. I'm not familar w/ overclocking and need to know what settings to change in the bios. I do not want to modify voltage and want as safe/minimal overclock as possible to get me to 2400 mhz (nothing more). Below is my CPUZ sheet that I just ran. Any help would be appreciated.

Crap. In my motherboard the max Multiplier I can choose is x10. Then the bus I can go as high as possible.

Yes, read the FAQ's. You're almost certainly going to have to increase the voltage. But it's all about memory timings and bus speed and voltage. Finding a balance among those and testing them to verify that they are stable.

Your CPU is going to have a upward locked multiplier. This means while you can lower your multiplier, you cannot raise it. Thus, 12*200 will be impossible for your CPU. In order to reach 2.4, you will need to go with 10*240. This may or may not be attainable on stock volts. My suggestion would be definatly read a faq or two. There is alot involved in overclocking, too much to be written here! Click below!

Looks like the max the voltage can go is 1.9 for memory, set the timings, then set the mult to x10 and tried 210 and 220 for bus. 220 will not boot but at 210 it will boot. Guess I'm limited to 2100 Mhz till Micro ATX AM2 comes out w/ a better motherboard or till I decided to buy a new CPU, cause this asus is the only decent board that has what I want (other than decent overclocking ). Atleast what I'm at now is more than enough for any game I can throw at it.

I'm able to boot at 3ghz on my x2-4000/TforceAM2 matx. Plus the mem volt goes to 2.2v.

Have you set your HT x4 (800) instead of HT x5 (1000)? If you are raising your FSB without lowering your HT you are crossing the motherboard specifications: 200 x 5 = 1000 but 220 x 5 = 1100. Total should be (FSB) x5 (1000) at max. With x4 you can go up to 250 FSB.

I understand now. Didn't understand the HT part of it, but your explanation makes me understand. Thanks everyone for the help so far.
