Lapping =Temps

post #1 of 9

OK I have done a search and have got some information but no real temps. I know this question has been asked to death but, what I'm looking for is the actual temp from before and after a lap job. My 930 while surfing the net will range from 41-46ish,when the computer starts up its up @ 48c then will drop.

When I was playing Doom3 is was around 51ish,I have ran prime but it rolled up to 60c so i stopped it. I have never been happy about the temp on this build so i could use so expert advice on this.
I know as soon as i lap the warranty is void,I guess I'd be OK with that IF it lowered the temps fare enough to make it worth while

where you happy with the out come?

Is your cooler copper or aluminum? If it's completely copper, than some of CoolLab's Liquid Pro thermal compound would work as well as lapping. It's their liquid metal thermal interface material, which has a LOT better thermal conductivity than any other "paste." It works well enough to eliminate the need to lap the heatsink or IHS.

Lapping always yeilds positive results especially for such a low price. You can also actually remove the IHS now on Pentiums as it appears some people at XtremeSystems have found out a way.

On average, it yeilds about a 3-6c drop in temps if done correctly. Though keep in find that once lapped, any warranty that the chip once had, is long gone. I saw about a 4-5c drop in temps on my cpu.

Will lapping help a phase cooled CPU Jrabb? I have always wanted to try this but have never gotten around to it.
