Memory Price Forecast...?

Hi folks,

Just wanted to get your input on this topic..I am in the process of upgrading my laptop and now it's time to address the RAM. I use this laptop for video editing and compositing so 16GB is a necessity. I was looking through 2x8 kits and saw this (read the "Other Thoughts" section of the 2nd review titled PLEASE WAIT):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233217

Can anyone speculate on this? I haven't read anything in particular about prices falling drastically within the next two months-- I can wait up to 2 months but not much longer than that.

Thanks guys.

Are you debating 2x 8GB modules for 32GB expandability down the line? Prices are only likely to fall, or at worse, stay where they are (failing a disaster...), so if it's desired enough, I'd say go for it.

That seems a bit pricey though. I thought I saw 2x 8GB cheaper on the desktop side, and last I remember from a few months back, laptop RAM saw lower prices for 8GB than the desktop side did. In any case, I doubt it'll drop enough in under two months to make a big difference to warrant the waiting.

Thanks for your input.

2x8 is the choice as to the best of my knowledge, the laptop's mobo supports a max of 16GB and it only has 2 DIMM slots.

NAND prices are likely to fall in the near-term due to Thailand flooding. The floods caused a HDD shortage which is impacting OEM PC shipments. Even Intel predicts they will lose around $1B partially due to the slowdown.

For your case... just get it. The 8GB DIMMs are still relatively new and in higher demand so their prices will move slower.
Once again...
