MountainMods vs CaseLabs

Thread Starter
I was wondering if there was a comparison done between MountainMod and CaseLabs cases. I'm interested in the quality, customability and layout aspects of these cases. Anyone have any experience with both? One thing that drew me to mountain mods was that their U2-UFO and Ascension cases could hold two motherboards on each side.

So does the TX10-D see this and this, I don't have any links for reviews that directly compare the two nor have I seen a MM case first hand. However I have not heard a bad thing about CaseLabs cases and all reviews have said that they are the best out there. There are a couple of mini reviews somewhere that say the quality is better. Certainly for me I hate MM cases because they have screws visible on the outside of the case, generally it really makes them look cheap to me. There are also many MM owners who have switched to CaseLabs according to Jim. Again I can't substantiate any of this but I'm sure others will.

Yah I know that the TX10-D has dual motherboard support but the case is just too large for me. Now if we had a M8 or M10 which had dual motherboard support, i'll be all over that. tongue.gif

I honestly think that the CaseLab cases look better. They do not convey a cheap look as the MM cases. I guess i'm really torn between having the dual motherboard support on a smaller case.

There *may* be some smaller dual "merlin" cases, but they won't be out for a long time I imagine. Yeah the TX10 is big - I think Jim said it's twice the volume of the largest MM case.

CaseLabs cases are amazing IMHO. Not to say that Mountain Mods doesn't have nice products, but I believe that paying $400+ dollars for a computer case, I should get it pre-assembled and not have to pay extra to have it painted... lol:rolleyes:

I guess the shortest answer to the OP is this:

No, there is no comparison. smile.gif
Consider the source... wink.gif but I truly believe our cases are superior in just about every way. I have a U2-UFO here, so I know what they offer firsthand.

Our cases are much stronger and will hold up to years of use. This is largely why the TH10 is our #1 seller. Many of them have been sold to former Extended Ascension owners who were dissatisfied with the structural integrity of their cases.

Our box frame design is extremely rigid and allows the doors to swing open freely - no screws. The covers detach quickly (tooless). The case can be stripped down (removing covers and door) in under a minute. Our "Flex-Bay" system is far superior the the 5.25 bays they offer. Their HDD mounts are... somewhat lacking in design rolleyes.gif Maybe it's just me, but their case is just too "Sheetmetal 101" for me and lacking any design finesse.

One could argue that their cases have a very flexible layout. That's true, but at the cost of not providing much in the way of internal structure. Our cases are very "plug and play" and yet allow tremendous flexibility in the the build layout. We have a much broader array of accessories.

I think ours look better, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder tongue.gif

I'll put it another way, if we sold the UFO at the same level of markup as the M8, it would go for about $200. That's not a knock against MM. They're actually doing it "right" by having enough margin for retailers, marketing, etc. We knew that if we were going to enter this market we had to offer something substantially better for a similar price. By offering our cases at their current prices, we get market share and our customers get a very good value; a win-win thumb.gif

In short, MM is the reason we started this venture.. wink.gif

Thank you for your response. I agree with you on all points. A feature request then: Would CaseLabs consider making the M8 or M10 dual motherboard compatible? I know that one side is currently used for dual psu but could that be moved to a top or bottom extension? I was looking to build a dual SR-X setup but TX10-D is way too tall.
