[Steam] - Steam Hardware & Software Survey: November 2011 (Finally updated front page from May 2010!)

Valve has finally updated the front page with June 2010 - November 2011 data which shows the trends. As many will remember, it was stuck at May 2010 as the last date. Apparently they will update it every 18 months.

Interesting data:

DX10/11 Systems (Vista/Win7 + DX10/11 GPU): 51.95% are DX10, 30.55% are DX11


4 CPU adoption trend: +17.28% (18 mos)

2 cpus 48.47% 4 cpus: 43.36%

By the time Ivy Bridge is released, 4 core cpus will probably be more than dual core cpus.

Also, when 28nm GPUs are released. we can hopefully see the DX11 cards percentage go up much higher, and probably those people will finally also upgrade from Windows XP.

I see what you're saying. Personally, I think we'll see more of that right after consoles use it. I estimate that 80% of the games that came out this year were developed for consoles first, if not higher.

The xbox 360 has 6 cpu threads. There is no excuse for a modern game to only use 2 threads on pc, when they are already using 3 times that on consoles.

People kept quoting the old data slide Steam left up since DX11 cards were released.
They're will always be a group of people that will say certain features or parts are not needed for gaming, until a year later the majority of us are upgrading for those very reasons.

X360 has 2 threads per core and I think that reserves one core for system. So it can take profit from 4 threads...
