TES Skyrim: Healer Playing Style - Page 2

No, I focused on grinding out all of my skills, since skill ups give you massive XP. I actually have the game turned to master, and my character's level set to 255 via the console. This means that the game is scaling monsters as if I were level 255, but my stats are only level 80 (setting levels via console doesn't grant extra Health/Stamina/Magicka). The game's still not tough. The problem with this playstyle is that it's not challenging because it's hard. It's challenging because the AI is stupid. Like really stupid. I've had plenty of times where my companion just wanders into a group of enemies and gets cut down, even wearing the best fully enchanted armour in the game and having only a bow equipped (i.e. no melee weapons). The enemy AI isn't challenging, but there are at least spots in this game where I feel overwhelmed or threatened because of the fact that I've scaled the game up far beyond what's intended. I don't even bother taking an NPC companion now. I just conjure a permanent Flame Atronach. They at least understand how to keep away from their enemies.

TL;DR If you find that trying to overcome poor game design is enjoyable, I guess this is the playstyle for you.

That honestly depends on the follower. If you want someone who more or less stays out of the way, try a spellsword or mage class follower. Again, this is simply a foundation to a playing style I personally found viable and for people who have tired of traditional ways to play the game. IMHO this beats the goal of that editor on PC Gamer who is playing the game through the perspective of a NPC.

Great guide, thanks for taking the time to write it up.

Some people don't seem to realize that different people approach a game in different ways. Some people really like to role play a character and not just worry about what is the most efficient character for combat.

My character is something of a ranger, an expert bowman who knows how to sneak around, scout his targets, wait for the right opportunity, then bounce with poisoned arrows and enchanted bows. Maybe playing a heavily armored berserker with massive two handed weapons would make combat easier (the game is already too easy) but I really like my play style and how it defines my character in the larger world.

Marcurio really should have been a sword/shield tank with the way he rushes into things. I can't pass a stream w/o him fighting the fish.

Yup! Bethesda broke down the class system because they wanted us to play however style we wanted.
