I say get another ax1200. Thats you safset bet, even with a maxrevo you going to be running it at 100% load 24/7 which wound be good in the long run.

From the PSU guru himself:

Well for 1350W, 1500W PSUs, etc. you've got Channel Well PUC units, which are outdated, although the newer Thermaltake 1350W is pretty good. You've got the Silverstone ST-1500, which is decent but just an average performer. And you have the Enermax MaxREVO, which would be good except it has really mediocre voltage regulation. Oh, also the Ultra X4 1600W, but that's a piece of crap.

So you take a step back. What else is out there? The Corsair AX1200 and Antec HCP-1200. Both of these power supplies do 80PLUS Gold at 1200W; but can pull 80PLUS Silver or Bronze up to hundreds of watts higher. The HCP-1200 is confirmed to do 2200W input, or around 1700W output, continuous. I wouldn't want to do it 24/7, but it can handle it with ease for shorter periods. In addition it has the highest build quality of any of the 1200W+ PSUs, meaning it's the most reliable; and it has 1-2% voltage regulation up to its rated wattage and ripple under 20mV on +12V and under 10mV on the minor rails. You can't get better electrical performance than that. And as said, it can do 1700W safely, and can probably pull 1500W 24/7 if well ventilated.

I can confirm that the Corsair AX1200 can do at least 1300W, but haven't seen anyone ask more of it. It's physically capable of going nearly as high as the HCP-1200, but may be limited by its over power protection. Performance is nearly as good, but build quality is just a bit less impressive. Still a top-notch unit, and should be able to dance with the 1350W units at least.

You're giving poor advice and you're not helping... how exactly would he be fully loading a 1.5KW unit 24/7?.. is he running Furmark+Prime95 24/7!?.. do you comprehend the acoustic hell he'll need to bare with 4x TFIII coolers dissipating ~330W each 24/7?..

OP, read this thread, these questions have been answered before..

Some questions and suggestions..
How bad do you hate yourself?.. 4x Lightning XE @ 0.95Ghz on the stock coolers?.. is this a tech related S&M fetish?.. I apologize for the bluntness but I can't imagine anyone in their right mind doing this to themselves out of their own free will.
Are you running a 6 monitor setup?.. 12GB of VRAM for anything less is, simply put, moronic.. you'd be better off with 1.5GB Lightnings which work at a lower memory latency.
Quad SLI scales rather bad, the only 4 way setup I'd consider would consist of 6970s.

I dont mind the bluntness at all buddy smile.gif Anyway 950 is just what i use for normal use and never have to set fan profile higher than 55 in MSI afterburner, i have benched these cards and have seen a little over 1ghz in tri-sli. And when im actually using the 950 core profile, well it is only for gaming, anytime else the cards are set back to stock, still even at the 950 core OC temps never breach 90c.

I can see you dont really know much or might be a little confused, but VRAM doesn't work like that, i am still only at a total of 3gb....I have seen these cards run in quad sli on the new x79 Asus Rampage board and the scaling is not bad at all. I know for a single 120hz monitor quad sli is extreme overkill, but i may eventually end up on 3x 120hz and quad will work great.

Thanks for the input.

Well my advice would be to NOT get a 4th GTX580 since I expect that you'll have various issues making use of them all in some games, this way you wouldn't need to worry about getting a larger PSU.

is all this going in a caselabs case? TH-10 and T-10 (and maybe the M series) have two PSU bays, the TX-10 has four. If you're building in to one of those (and you should be, with your budget) then I would get two identical PSUs for the symmetry. two HCP-1200s tongue.gif
