Dell U2412M 24inch And Gaming - Page 4

I found this wikipedia page to be helpful in explaining FOV at different aspect ratios. I am leaning towards going with a 16:9 ratio now after reading over additional sources. I just don't want reduced FOV on the left or right even if it is only a trivial amount.

Note that all games are not hor+ and thus you won't have the most FOV on 16:9 in all games.

In any case, hor+ games have a fixed vertical FOV. This means that a higher vertical resolution will make images on the screen take more pixels to form, which makes the image clearer. This means that even though 1920x1200 sees less horizontally in hor+ games than 1920x1080, it will have a clearer image. In vert- games, 1920x1080 simply sees less than 1920x1200 vertically, since both have the same horizontal resolution (vert- games having a fixed horizontal FOV). Even then it is a trade off.

Also, you can run 1920x1080 on 1920x1200 monitors if you want to, the reverse is not true. Unless you have a strong hate for black bars, this is once again one benefit for 1920x1200. (assuming those are the paths you're considering).

If FOV is what matters for you the most, a triple monitor setup will give you just that. Most games are in hor+, yes, and they give you a much bigger FOV because your aspect ratio is three times as wide as a single monitor would be.

Just wanted to say that I prefer 16:10 over 16:9, and it was a toss up between the U2412M and the Asus PA248Q. I actually went with the Asus, and just ordered it today. Previous to my Dell U2311H, I had a 24 inch Samsung 1920x1200 that died. I always regretted going to a 1080 monitor, as it's just too rectangular (if you get what i mean). I am anxious to get back, to what I consider to be, the sweet spot in monitors. thumb.gif

Please give us a review of it when you get it. This is one I'm considering.

i returned the u2412m...it was a fantastic monitor no doubt...definite image improvement over tn...if you had a white background you could see the AG coating though. My main gripe was the input lag and loose power connector...my god...I would have to place the power cord in perfectly or else no power...if i even attempted to adjust the monitor or hit its buttons...boom...i would lose connection. I currently own a 120hz monitor and it is amazing for games...the 16:10 ratio from the dell stretched the image vertically and seemed abnormal to me...but i did get adjusted to it. If you only play games casually get the dell...really good for web surfing...excel...word...movies etc....but for games...definitely get the 120hz.

The u2412m, again, has no input lag that would be bad enough for you to say that. The input lag is equal to the better 120hz displays. (input lag wise) (which means it's lower than on your s23a700d). The input lag can be an issue on the U2410, but not on the u2412m.

Also, things don't get stretched on 16:10 vertically. If they did, you were running a non-16:10 resolution which makes it your fault that they did. Don't blame the monitor for it.

ok...next time do some research...also you don't grasp the concept of 16:10 apparently...1920/1200 = 1.6...16/10 = 1.6....1920/1080...1.77...16/9...1.77. The screen horizontally for a 16:9 is 1.77 longer than it is vertically (pixel wise)....for 16:10 it is 1.6 times longer horizontally...where do you think that real estate goes?...yeah...vertically which is why i said it feels stretched vertically versus 16:9....

16:10 vs 16:9

and yes I can tell a difference in input lag as I've been playing fps for 20 years.
