Hi.

Im currently running an athlon x3 450 rana unlocked to phenom II x4 b50 3.6GHz 2.5GHz NB. H2o 620 cooler and I got a Gigabyte gtx 460 756MB clocked to 860MHz core,2200MHz memory. Mb is 870a-ud3

Im thinking of upgrading my cpu and im not sure what to choose. 960, whit 4 cores, this will very likely hit 4GHz? and how are the experience whit unlocking last 2 cores?

Think i will get a performance boost switcing cpu? My computer doesn't have l3 cache, how mutch do that count in gaming perfromance?hehe,

You'd be a fine with an overclocked 955 BE with your GTX 460.

840 does not have L3 cache, the 960 does. Plus the 960 could be unlocked to hexacore (at best the 840 could unlock L3 cache) and the 960 has turbo boost.

I'd just stick to a 955, 960t or that B50. It'll be nice, and the extra two cores of a 960t/1090t will not benefit in gaming at all. Changing to 840 that does not unlock will be a downgrade as some games do like the extra L3 cache.

The 840 is nothing but a rebadged Athlon X4 that's based on the Propus die, not Deneb. Hence it lacks the L3 cache. It would be actually a step down from what you currently have

Go with the 960T, with the added bonus of it possible unlocking into a hexcore

Why not the 960? It has same l2 and l3 cache as 955 and has the possibility to open up to 5 and 6 core? hum....Price almost the same

Actually the price is exectly the same, just a couple of dollars diffrent

That argument sold right home!hehe!

It is just the same price, some stores take more for the 955 than other do for the 960.

So i'l go for the 960.

1 more question. having an .3 cache, that does alot in game? My b50 is running bf on ultra on most maps, high on the rest, will i get an improvment..hum..hehe

In some it does, in some it does not. BF3 being a GPU-limited game, it does little, but CPU intensive games like SCII it helps a lot.
