Crossfire possibly causing my computer to have booting issues?

post #1 of 17
Thread Starter
When I boot my computer it hangs at the starting windows screen. This usually happens when my computer is off for a while. I thought this might have been something with the psu, so i posted there but some say that there could possibly be something with my gpus. My computer is in my sig. I tested both cards with furmark and the temps are around 75c -80c on full load. So i dont think they are overheating. There arent any artifacts are anything like that. The thing is if I take one of them out it boots fine. Ive switched the crossfire bridge and it still the same. I swapped the cards and it still happens. Ive tried each card in both the pci slots be themselves and it works fine. Ive also tried the different drivers it doesnt fix anything. Ive done the chkdsk on the ssd and came back with no errors. Ive also reformmatted my hard drive and reinstalled the os a couple of times. I also increased the ram voltage to 1.65v thinking that was the problem but it didnt fix it. Any help is appreciated.

If it just happened recently, try reset CMOS then load BIOS Optimized Defaults then save. It might sound strange but give it a try.

I tried resetting the cmos. Thought it worked before but then the next day when I boot my computer it hangs again. For some reason the hanging only happens when its off for a while. When it hangs I usually just reset and it can load up fine though.

Try the official WHQL Catalyst 11.12 http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

If it doesn't solve it, it might have something to do with your Windows Activation. Reformat and Fresh OS re-install if you want to try.

Do not install AMD graphics driver from Windows Update or you will have the issues as now.

If you have a working backup prior to the update, roll-back is the only way. Uninstall and registry cleaning will not do the trick. Tested many times but failed. I don't know the exact values modified in registry.

Edit:

Ignore the above. Missed the updates fixed your issues.

So I thought the updates fixed but it actually hasnt. I booted up this morning and its hanging again. I tried to install 11.12 this morning but it failed to install the display driver. I didnt have enough time to try to get it to install since i had to leave for work. I will be installing it later tonight
I noticed that every time I finish doing an update it says there are warnings during the installation, but when I look at the log everything just says success. Do you know whats that about?
Also I i gotten more display stopped working but recovered.
A couple times when I was playing battlefield 3 my computer froze and had a stranhe buzzing sound but hasnt happened since i uninstalled the cap, but it still freezes from time to time.

OK, uninstall Catalyst drivers then clean it with this;

ATIMAN Uninstaller v.6.1.3 http://www.mediafire.com/?bzbf9kyk5ymodka (Run with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restarts to complete the uninstallation - Disable UAC to install this cleaner).

Later install the official WHQL 11.12 http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx
