Im leaning towards that it could be something related to this. I have noticed that my cpu drop voltages even after i have disabled all power saving features and turbo core in bios. I have even updated the bios but even that did not stop the voltage drops of the cpu. I have Ga-970a-UD3 with bios f4.

I seem to be having this issue as well, even with the fx 4100 oc'ed to 4.6ghz, on a TA990fxe motherboard and gtx 560 ti 2gb vid card. Running resolution of 1600x900. Tried console commands and all of it no matter what, the renderahead limit thing seemed to help some but for the love of god its annoying me. I didnt have this issue with a Phenom 2 x4 955 BE which is now in my roomies computer cause he bought it and i got the fx 4100...regretting this at this point. Oh also running 2x4gig 1600 gskill ram.

I never had any issues with my FX-4100 on BF3. that was on Stock settings or over clocked.

Cool 'n'quiet was always on, and stock settings so was core performance boost.. C1E and C6 Support were disabled though...

I am running however the gigagbyte 990-FXA-UD3 which is a little different.

is it possible its just a motherboard bios update ?

I run it 1600 x 1050 on pretty much full settings at a bout 40-50 fps with AMD HD 6850 with no issues at all.

I have since upgraded to the FX-6200 but I never once had anything bad to say about my trusty ol'4100

Try setting the affinity to 1-3 cores for the game(on "cores" 2-4)Leave the 1st for OS.That..and the chip is kinda weempy ph34r-smiley.gif

Follow the steps in my link in my sig to see if the FX-4100 is bottlenecking your GPU.

I'm sorry to say, but your previous Phenom II X4 955 BE was a better CPU than the FX-4100.

What about the x4 970? i have one of those and threw it in, benchmarks are lower but games run WAY smoother.

What do you mean by benchmarks ? What benchmark ?

Did you log a gaming session with FRAPS ? What does the log say ? Min., Max., Average FPS ?

The FX-4100 may get you higher Max. framerates, but it may also get you lower Min. framerates, resulting in a game experience that is less smooth. The Bulldozer architecure is inherently unbalanced when it comes to current desktop applications. They decided to have 4 weaker integer cores along with 2 floating point units in your CPU, versus 4 full cores with 4 floating point units in the Phenom II. The Bulldozer architecture is a sort of ideal architecture where software would be very threaded and applications that take advantage of floating point operations would use the new AVX instructions. Alas, we do not live in a perfect world, and such applications are not the ones we are currently using.

Intel has a much more balanced and realistic approach, they keep improving IPC because some applications and operations simply cannot be multithreaded, and keep an eye on multithreading by improving multi-core efficiency and adding hyperthreading, which is a much better approach than AMD with Bulldozer. Having four proper cores with Hyperthreading is better than having 8 weaker integer cores with 4 floating point units for the kind of work we do on the desktop today.

I talked my brother in law into swapping and his seems to do fine with BF 3, on his gtx 560 vs what i was experiencing, on his machine i never installd that windows fx patch. Don't think that would have somethin to do with it but heck, i dont really even know what that patch was supposed to do in the first place. I didnt notice till i installed on his but the ram timings were 11,11,11,28 and all the other timings were higher then they was supposed to be, not at their stock settings. So i tighten his ram timings and tested seemed to be smooth as silk so if anyone else is having this issue it could be your ram timings.

I have the same problem with BF3 stuttering at times. I went from a 1090T to an 8120 and it made no difference. I played last night and took a snap shot. This is with the 8120 @ 4.3 GHz. As you can see in Afterburner, the GPU usage of both 5770's is bouncing around between 90 and 99%, with the occasional and un-explained drop in usage. I noticed that the game plays super smooth when the usage is between 97 and 99%. I dont know what happens that makes the GPU's bounce from steady high usage, to non-steady usage. It seemed like setting the fans manually to a set percentage helped even out the usage graph, but I haven't done enough testing to verify that this is the cause. CPU usage is pretty steady with 5 of the 8 cores doing most of the work.

FYI, I am playing at 1920x1080, Ultra settings, and AA deferred Off.
