Not yet. I wanted to wait to mess with that after the fold-a-thon is over.

I would give Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS and try that way. If you need a GUI, then you can add that.

Yeah its pretty easy to update the server edition to have the GUI, I think its just apt-get install ubuntu-desktop from what I remember. I have only had to do it once or twice. When I get home tonight, since just normal SMP is running, I might cancel the fold and add the pause flag to let it finish that WU.

Then I will try a different hard drive so that the worst that can happen is that I just hook up the hard drive again and resume the fold in Windows.

Personally. I wouldn't put something as bloated as Gnome on there. Use LXDE.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LowMemorySystems

sudo apt-get install lxde x11 lxdm

that should get you set up.

That sounds good as well. I also thought about trying the V7 client using the USB boot guide. Since I was able to boot both 10.10 and 11.10 from USB and make sure other things were running correctly. Will have to see what happens. I just don't want to spend too much time messing around during the FAT.

True. If you're installing Ubuntu Server via USB. I would recommend using this bootflag since it'll ask you for a CD Drive if your using USB to install.

If you're already up and running. No sense on taking it down now. Wait until after the FAT to do the Ubuntu Server install. I made a guide on how to do a ubuntu server GUI-less hugebigADV. But I accidentally deleted the file. Though I think I sent it to matroska or someone. >_<

This system is not overclocked yet, I'll update again when I do. I also just bought another 4p board and 4 x 6128s, I'll get you numbers when I get it going.

Those are awesome PPD hoth.

Are you going to have 3 of the 4p systems then or just the two?

Two, which means I have an extra 4p board that needs to be sold along with 16x2gb sticks of ram.

So I did a quick try using the V7 linux USB boot. Its up and running on that, on the WU I have right now its getting over 50k PPD compared to the 30k it was getting in Windows. Once the FAT is over I will probably try something else.
