Just some ideas on heatsink mounts...

This is what I did for a 4.1" pitch socket F board. It should work for G34.

Musky's Hyper 212+ mounting bracket mod works great. I just installed four of them this weekend. They are very quiet and provide excellent cooling to the low wattage Magny Cours processors.

Yea it was my first home but I've learned so much from OCN and am more active here nowadays, though my contribution is minuscule in comparisons. But you're right, I probably should say much about it. smile.gif

amd heatsink is square while intel is circular. Anyone have the length and width of the socket for this board? link:http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=H8QGL-IF%2B&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12166479984475197529&sa=X&ei=PacLT52wLsHAtgfX6d2xBQ&ved=0CDQQ8wIwBA
I'd love to fit the intel ones on there but probably have to cut parts of the alum fins off.

Rob, I just went and checked my Supermicro, which has the same sockets orientation and layout as the board you linked. Turns out the the spacing between the Intel i7 heatsink mounting bracket push-pins, from one pin to the opposite point on the other side of the cooling fins, appears to be the same length as the distance between motherboard heatsink retention holes on the ends of the G34 sockets. I thought maybe we were on to something, that all you would have to do is clip some cooling vanes and substitute 6-32 machine screws for the push pins. After examining a couple i7 heatsinks, both a Nehalem and a Sandy Bridge, I would not advise using one. The round contact patch on the bottom of the Intel heatsink is just too small in diameter. It looks to me like only 50% of the G34's CPU heatspreader would have direct heatsink coverage. Those G34 MC and IL CPUs are 'double wide.' tongue.gif

I have 16 x 1gb ddr3 1333 1.5v Kingston sticks. I'm going to list them in the fs section, but I thought I'd give you all first crack at them as they are just meant for a g34 rig. Mods, this is not a for sale, but just a heads of to what is to come.

Thanks so much! Never thought about the cpu size lol.

The 212+s contact point is smaller than the chips and it works great. The heatsinks don't need to cover the entire chip, it just needs to adequately cool the chip.

Pm returned, this is why we need a fs section dedicated to only folders!

Certainly would be interesting. I know I recently sold an SR2 and another 2P board on [H] because I have high enough ebay related feedback along with some heat and met their other requirements. But I would need quite a bit more reps to be able to sell stuff here. Its kind of unfortunate, because I would have liked to keep the equipment for the OCN team, but since the [H] guys are also very helpful I don't mind it as much that it went to them.
