Can't Get My New HDMI Cable/Connection to Work - Page 3

Thanks. I also went ahead and ordered a pair of 3 Meter HDMI to DVI Adaptor Cables since the EVGA GTX590 has no HDMI port and I can then hook up my TV as well for watching the Babylon 5 series I bought several years ago on DVD.

My new mobo is on the truck for delivery, probably tonight since we're at the end of the UPS run. Amazon has been pretty good with their packaging so it should arrive intact. Except for the 1st order I ever placed with them. They sent me a very nice box with the air bags for padding, a packing slip, and nothing else! After calling them, they sent what I ordered by overnight delivery so I can't complain too much.

I just hope I don't have to format and reinstall everything again. I shouldn't since the new mobo is exactly the same as the one I ruined. I also made a backup last Sunday and at most, may have to reinstall Hard Reset, the 1st entire game I ever bought on Steam. I bought and installed it around 4 AM Christmas morning. I'm not sure whether the backup was made earlier that day or the morning after. I'm gonna have to study up on reinstalling a backup as I've never been able to do it before. IF I need to at all.

I'm going to try my best to forget 2011. It's been a long, terrible year and there's really not one single thing I want to remember about it.

Re installing from a backup shouldn't be too hard - I don't know what software you're using for backing up, but the built in Windows backup program seems to work well for me. Just have to make a system repair disc from any computer running Windows 7 and boot to that. Should make your drive bootable and everything. Only problem you might have is the activation, it might nag you to activate again when you boot up with the new board. A quick call to MS has never failed to do the trick for me.

I installed the RMA'd board and did nothing but hook up the drives the same as they were, and it booted right up. I thought it might and luckily it did.

Thanks!

I found out, just by trying anything I could think of, that if I restart the monitor and start rapidly clicking the HDMI button on the remote control, that a screen will come up eventually that has just "VGA, HDMI 1 and HDMI 2" on it and you can select the input with the up/down arrow buttons on the remote control.

NOW, I can have 3 computers hooked up to this one monitor. I use a KVM plus Sound unit. I have only one computer connected to the VGA connector of the KVM and only have the keyboard, mouse and speakers hooked up to two computers with the one computer using all the KVM connectors. That's 2 computers connected with HDMI cables and the 3rd one by the VGA cable. Plus, I can use a 3rd HDMI cable for the TV.

If I wasn't told what the Analog to HDMI switch was and what it looked like I would still be stuck with one computer hooked up to the monitor with just the VGA cable.
Damn, this is one AWESOME site with the people to match!

Thanks to all of you!

UPDATE: Windows just informed me that my copy of Windows 7 is illegal. I typed in the code as requested and it won't validate. I guess I'm gonna have to call MicroSoft for the 1st time ever.

I can see their point about illegal copies, but after all I've been through I still don't care to be accused of being a crook. Especially by my own, very legal, OS!

Go call em up! I don't mind a little bit of copy protection as long as it's non-intrusive and functional. The second there's a problem, though.....it's keygen time.

It took exactly 1 hour 45 minutes with some very nice people from, what sounded like, India, to get a new keygen.

I don't mind at all. It saved me from having to wipe out my present C drive and buy another copy of Win 7 Pro, so all is now copacetic once again.

Until the next crises anyway.

Here's what I was up to when the mss. about an illegal copy of Windows popped up: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2465986

I think I'll keep it.

(I just edited my damned specs again and they STILL don't post correctly! I despise this new Forum change! That's supposed to be 5.00GHz 24x7. 2-MSI GTX580 Lightning XE in SLi.

2x4GB Mushkin Redline at 1866 MHz.)

1.472V. It's been at this setting for most of the past 2 days. That's with one complete run through of "RAGE", umpteen different benchmarks, 5 runs in a row of IntelBurn Test and I don't know what all else. So far it's as steady and stable as any computer I've ever owned and/or built. Apparently, it was the original mobo that was keeping me from OCing properly.

All I ever wanted from SandyBridge is a stable, 24x7 5GHz, and I finally have it. I think it was well worth having to buy a new mobo since it runs as fast as it does now.

I'd still like to know what to do with the old board. I don't want to send it to the landfill, but I also don't want it sitting around here, either.
