That GPU is far inferior to the integrated GPU on an APU.

- that HDD is the majority of the price...we're under budget, so it's not a big deal, but would it matter if we go for a cheaper drive? or two cheaper drives?
- that power supply is sufficient?
- he does have a receiver, but it's hooked up through the TV? he is not using optical out right now
- the TV is a sony bravia - so we shouldn't have any problems with using it as a monitor correct?
- he wants to sit on his couch and use a wireless keyboard - any recommendations for a mouse/keyboard remote?
lastly:
- will this case work?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163166

That case is the same as the one I have listed above, on Amazon you get it for the same price shipped free!

What PSU are you talking about?

Wireless Keyboard and Track Pad - $28 this is back-lit, which is good to have if the media room is mostly going to be dimly lit as i have mine!

No problems with the TV as a monitor - LCD works well!

HDD - depends on what you are getting?

Connection - HTPC - AV Reciever - TV (all HDMI recommended) you should not have no problems, you wouldn't need a sound card, the onboard audio is capable to produce 5.1 channel surround sound, if he has the speakers to play it on!

Mine is almost the same (specs in signature) and I watch Blu-Ray's mkv's all on 1080p video and 5.1 surround sound ( i have a 7.1 channel setup with a Yamaha RX-V671 receiver)!

Absolutely true - if you are going with a Llano processor or even Intel HD 3000!
Don't even consider that GPU, spend that $40 bucks on a couple of good blu-ray's and you'll be happier! thumb.gif

I think he should be looking at amd apu barebones. $600 for an htpc is a waste really. AMD apus are very capable of rendering any 1080p media.

Yes that would work, that is the PSU which comes with this Antec NSK 2480 case actually! If you want to consider the case itself, that would also be good and a little cheaper, save $20 there.

I personally like the Silverstone GD05 better because of the dimensions and the all black look, makes it look more like an AV receiver! But the Antec Case is a good one too!

Yes if you have a 3D capable TV/Monitor and a Blu-ray player (software) which is capable of playing 3D!
