Blue Orb 2, For Opty 146?

Thread Starter
Hey i was just wondering.

No 1. Will the Blue Orb 2 fit onto an socket 939 opty 146? because on there website it says
"AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Socket 939, AM2)
AMD Athlon 64 FX (Socket 939, AM2)
AMD Athlon 64 (Socket 754, 939, AM2)
AMD Sempron (Socket 754, AM2)"

No 2. Whats the deal with thermal grease? if i take off my stock heatsink and fan do i have to put thermal grease on or...?

and is the blue orb 2 any good?

Thanks a lot

Yes
Yes, always replace the thermal compound.
Is a good cooler, not the best for OCing but good.
Do you presently own one?

Tuchan or ixe67 are from your neighborhood, they would know where to get the stuff

If you don't have the Blue yet, consider an Big Typhoon or if you can find it a Tuniq. The Big Thphoon works very well but you must lap the meat sink, they are very rough.
The best thermal compound is Artic Silver 5 ot "AS5" and takes about 3-4 days 7/24 to cure to work it's best.
Keep your full load below 50c,

you usually get some free with your cooler but everyone will recommend arctic silver 5 because its much better and can imprve your temps 5-8C at times.

Thanks for the quick replies I was looking and i found a Blue Orb 2 for 25$ whereas the big typhoon costs around 70$ :S I thought for 25$ it would be good if it could get my temps down a bit. Also i have heard of Artic SIlver but what do you mean by cure :S? im a bit of a noob in case you didnt notice only started overclocking a few days ago . It just drains your money lol but its addictive lol

AS5 has a cure time. Keep your system running 24/7 and in about 3-4 days you will see the idle temp drop down, then it's cured. It hardens up some.
DO NOTE! If and when you remove your FHS (Fan Heat Sink) after using AS5, get your PC well warmed up, then shut down, unplug the main power and FHS fan power then remove the FHS because it gets rather sticky.

I would say about 99% of people on this forum use a aftermarket HS, as 98% of use OC our rigs and need the extra cooling.
