Essentially, that amounts to throwing money away. Instead of including stuff like that, we focus on building a higher quality chassis. There are several hot swap devices out there that are much better quality than the "free" ones that are included with some cases, so for our users (who tend to be more discriminating), they are probably the best alternative.

Definitely agree with the hot swap bays and fan controllers, but fans, there are DEFINITELY high-quality options you can include with the cases that are very unlikely to be replaced; fans like Sunons, Deltas, San Aces, Papsts, Nidecs... you know, stuff usually meant for servers that's high-quality (and all are brands I recommend over mainstream fans and even GentleTyphoons if I see them available and pre-pinned for a reasonable cost). Of course, you can't default to the screamers, there has to be a balance of airflow and noise, but thankfully those brands all offer low- and medium-speed models that would fit the purpose of being simple case fans perfectly. smile.gif Whether or not you can provide them with the case for a decent discount, I can't say, that's more your job than mine. tongue.gif

That is true...

And this isn't.
These are high-end cases. They beg to be customized. Most HW enthusiasts have their favourite fans, preferences about looks of their future build, etc. You can't please everyone.
I know for sure that depending on build I am working on there can be only be one-two types of fans that can satisfy me... So I think Jim is absolutely correct.

Well, the point of it is you'd provide the option for members that don't want to hunt down viable case fan options themselves. Of course, they're free to choose their radiator/tower cooler fans and others, regardless of which path they take. Those used to the Case Labs way of doing things won't be likely to pick the option where fans are provided, but the option is still there. It's especially handy for those that couldn't easily get the included fans, provided they'd be from one of the brands I mentioned. smile.gif

Tbh I'd prefer to buy the case without fans. I prefer getting my own specific brand and installing them myself. Saying that, Jim would essentially turn into a Newegg if he was to sell cases and fans (and someday fan controllers, etc.). I just want the case for the lowest price I can get it. If it was an optional choice it might make more sense, but this would result probably in an administrative nightmare for those who just want to pack up the case and ship it out - because chances are the aluminum won't break or have technical difficulties. wink.gif

Fans have become such a personal preference with so many options available. You just wouldn't be able to keep everyone happy, unless you were to include AP-15's with black blades at only $10 each on top of the base price thumb.gif

As long as the fans aren't pre-installed, it could be a viable option. However, if you think about it, Case Labs doesn't really sell any product made by another company, except for small stuff like switches. Due to that, it might be more difficult for CL to start selling fans with their cases than it would be for other companies who are already selling other products.

Still, depending on the number of fans supported in the Merlin series, it might be a nice option to have. I don't see it being viable with the larger Magnum cases... my M8 is holding 24 fans with 2x 360mm rads. Also, keep in mind a lot of people buying CL cases have fans laying around, either from previous configurations or just extra orders.

With all this kept in mind, I think the best option would be packages of cheaper fans (like Yate Loons) sold in conjunction with cases. Packages of 5 or 6 for $25-$30 would be awesome.

In all honesty, people who buy CL case (or even know of the company to begin with) probably aren't building their first rig and/or aren't "noobs" but rather enthusiasts (more or less...), so they probably A) have the fans already OR B) have their own fav. fans (like me) that they want to buy. And really, if you're dishing out the cash for one of the cases a few fans shouldn't hurt that much, or if it does hurt there are many shops that sell Yates for around 5 bucks.

GentleTyphoons are overrated, anyway, but I see your point. tongue.gif

True enough, though it may become viable for CaseLabs to make their own fans completely in-house at some point in the future, which to me would be an attractive option if I didn't already have the fans I want.

Funny thing is, I opted out for the switches too. This is something I wish there was a universal standard on so I could have purchased my own in place of it, just like a fan controller, but I just had the soft power buttons and that's it, which I still don't like. I think Lamptron does quite a fantastic job of making their switches look beautiful, but keeping them connected is another story.

Just out of curiosity, will there be an extended top for these "slimmer" line cases that would house a radiator (size doesn't matter but I'm just not sure how big you're planning to accommodate)? smile.gif I remember I really wanted one for the M8 that would fit with the ThermoChill 360 radiators but iirc the inlets/outlets on the TCs were too...odd. thumb.gif
