Anyone have any ideas to get by this? Probably not...quite a weird request right?

There's plenty of room behind the front bays for a PSU to be modded in if you really want to do this. Is it only symmetry? You might be able to fit a low profile 480 like the ex480 and push only fans with a regular roof anyway.

If you love symmetry get the TX10-D lol

Also you can front mount a 480 in the flex bays too.

Pretty much just for symmetry purposes. smile.gif I mean, functionally would be awesome as well since I'm sure it would definitely allow me to reduce temps.

However, I'm not the type to put a 480 and then a 360. I'd rather just stick with one 480.

I don't know why I am the way I am. I might consider doing what you said though. The Black Ice GTX 480 is somewhat thin though I'm not sure if it's thin enough.

I'll have to wait for the SMH10 to tell!

Are there two PSU slots on the bottom or is there one in the middle? Chances are I won't mod the front mainly because it will look weird with a cable running out the front. It'd be nice to mode the back, but I don't like to mess with Jim's craftsmanship.

Are these available for preorder?

The power supplies are side by side the same as the STH10:

Haven't seen anything about them being up for preorder but I'm sure Jim can tell you, sounds like they're nearly ready to go

Would something like this be possible in the near future?

scaled.php?server=837&filename=27e616a2clsth1003.jpg&res=landing

#1) Instead of the 120mm fan vent, an area built into the motherboard tray that would allow for a PSU next to the motherboard but above the PCI slots. Certainly wouldn't be the most aesthetically appealing when looking from the outside, but another option.

#2) Allowing for 8 PCI slots and moving the motherboard tray up to allow for a horizontally mounted PSU underneath the motherboard.

#3) I'm still not sure if this would fit or be smart since but only one PSU slot so the radiators can kind of sandwich it.

Thoughts?

All of these placements would be a nightmare and so I don't think you are ever going to see a respectable case maker implement any of those. If Jim put a PSU anywhere you suggest, the rest of us here are going to look perplex and scratch our collective heads in disbelief ....... then we'd shoot him.

I'll give you just one example: your top one installed where the 120mm fan is. Most guys want a side window to display their craftsmanship. So I am not about to have a window giving onto a PSU box and a bunch of wires.

This idea of not wanting an asymmetrical built is nearing on paranormal dude. Just have two 120.3 rads in there if you want to have a symmetrical case.
You still would have enough room for an other 120.4 rad up top (or two 120.4on the STH10)

That is a great total of 3-4 large rads and I'm guessing this would be your first build, no? Or for sure your first water cooled build? Well, we are talking about an expert level build done by a first timer and I'm not sure that's such a good idea to reinvent PSU placement and whatnot.

So I am not about to have a window giving onto a PSU box and a bunch of wires. Very true. Sometimes I don't consider things like these - with the wires and whatnot. Exactly why I asked for opinions. smile.gif
This idea of not wanting an asymmetrical built is nearing on paranormal dude. I wouldn't say that. It's called personal preference. Just have two 120.3 rads in there if you want to have a symmetrical case.
You still would have enough room for an other 120.4 rad up top (or two 120.4on the STH10) Too restricting without the 120mm top - which would essentially turn it into the size of an STH10 (minus an inch or two).
That is a great total of 3-4 large rads and I'm guessing this would be your first build, no? I don't think I'm understanding. The SMH will not fit 4 480 radiators without weird customization/placement. Or for sure your first water cooled build? No. Well, we are talking about an expert level build done by a first timer and I'm not sure that's such a good idea to reinvent PSU placement and whatnot. Not sure where you're coming from, but it was a good effort. Thanks for your opinions.

See bold.

Thanks for the input, minus the unnecessary comments.

EDIT: I think it's good to reinvent by the way. Otherwise we wouldn't have CaseLabs at all. smile.gif However, there are definitely some bad ideas as well. Sometimes we don't consider them when we make a two minute post on OCN. biggrin.gif

Okay, I didnt want to sound like I'm rying to shoot you down because I'm not.
Are you aware that some guys create their own case? I'm typing this from my smartphone so i dont wanna look for links now but I cant send you a few very intrresting links later on

And yes you could try to set the PSU in those places, you just would have to mod your case around a bit. That gets done all the time, just not for your reasons.

I think at this point you're trying desperately to make a PSU centered (I can't even say symmetrical because the current setup is symmetrical, just not your intended use of it. Now you've ended up with something that's way less functional. At some point practicality wins over center mounting.

Either you end up with
- a taller case with less functionality
- an ugly case with a psu in the window
- or a restricted bottom chamber that can only take 1 psu and 2 360's rather than a much more useful psu + 560 + 360.
- Putting it in the 9th/10th slot would require significant design changes because now the heat chamber has changed height.

And besides which, it's the back of the case so who cares and imo you made it less attractive. If having a centered psu is that big a deal I think you have to mod it dude. Jim's solution is way better imo.

I'm all for new ideas and brainstorming etc, but this is one idea I wouldn't be able to recommend at all sorry.

No problemo. Just throwing out suggestions. Pick and choose at will!

I suppose the question now is how you would set this up. It's nice to have a pressure system but with the radiators down bottom, does this affect the top of the case?

For example, should the front vents intake and the top vents outtake? Or if the radiator(s) are intaking, should all the upper compartment vents be outtaking?
