It doesn't come with any fans!?"), but for anyone who has a few builds under their belt; I'm hoping that they can see the potential of what we're trying to do.

Merlin is already better than all of those "other options", but I see what you mean. Merlin is more about innovation with a degree of moderation in size/budget, while still keeping the feature perks high. Nobody matches it really, I can see that just from the frame design. Every new bit of news and I'm like perhaps I should get a nice compact (compared to the STH10) but still features packed Merlin case.

However the ST10's "Blank Check Design" is awesome. I keep coming back to it for my plans and I see its size as an advantage. It can go on the floor and you can walk up to it then drop in a blu ray at standing height. As a custom canvas it's awesome. Rads up top? Sure! Rads down below? Why not! Rads in other places? We have that too! Double rads in one compartment? HA! The STH10 laughs at double rads! HaHaHa!! Room for every artistic mod under the sun? You've come to the right place - tell a friend!! So I don't think I will wait for Merlin biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifthumb.gif

And who cares about stock fans? At this price range, we have better fans to use than crappy stock fans.

As much as I want an SM5 I may have to skip it for now and do my desk build I wanted to do for a while and build it into the desktop like l3p's desk... just wood.

But the Sm5 is so tempting...

Decisions... I hate making them.

Here is a better shot of the interior of the upcoming SM8 interior. In this example, there are 3 MAC-102 drive cages installed (4 drives each), but a 360 radiator mount would fit in the same space. There is also room for 2 HDD's and 2 SSD's on the far side. As you can see there is plenty of room for a 480 across the top and the AX1200 is not crowded at all.

With the SM8, every single cable coming out of the PSU has to pass thru that central motherboard panel, 9 to 12 cables, more depending upon # of video cards. With the M8 the molex and sata lines could pass directly to drives and pumps not passing thru that central panel. With thick sleeving those M8 design holes may not be large enough right off the PSU mounting area to accommodate that cable circumference.

Is this the first chassis CaseLabs has produced with the PSU in the same compartment as the motherboard? Getting the feeling that it is.

Not trying to be rude or a smart-ass or anything, but when the PSU is mounted in the same compartment as the motherboard, all the cables off the PSU first have to “Exit” the motherboard compartment all at once in a large bundle adjacent to the PSU mounting area, and then the cables “Reenter” the compartment thru various smaller openings. Not sure if that small oblong and that circle in the photo would handle that large of a bundle, especially with individually sleeved cables and those users running 3 or 4 video cards.thumb.gif

Has someone actually said that? biggrin.gif
I don't see the logic in people wanting the case to come with fans. The fans are usually crappy OEM stuff, with the exception of companies like bitfenix and a few others, and most peeps will change the fans to better ones. Best guys are the ones who want the oem fans but admit that they will be switching them asap. I mean come on, what's the point?! kookoo.gif

Are those HDD cages rotatable?

I hope they are otherwise there is going to be some really ugly wiring happeneing right there. If they can be rotated so that the ports on the HDDs/SSDs face the rear part of the case, I think the cabling will be a whole lot better looking as most of the ugly parts will be out of sight.

Otherwise I really like the whole idea of the case as it is right now and with the space for 2 x 360 rads its going to be great.thumb.gif

No, but there are cable management holes behind the drive cages so the cables won't have to stretch across to the large oblong holes, which I agree wouldn't look great. A side mounted drive cage might be a possibility in the future though.

Pricing hasn't been set yet, but mid $300's is the range we're looking at.
