So with these matx M8's that you guys wanted - did you just want a smaller tray in the M8 or a smaller case as a whole?

Smaller case as a whole, an mATX board would of course fit in a standard M8.

Yeah that's what I assumed. I know a mATX will fit I just wasn't sure if some people were bugged by having a larger tray than board. Plus a M8 with a recentered mATX tray would also allow thicker rads in the top without requiring the extended top.

It will be interesting to see how Merlin prices out WITH all the extras you tend to pick out with these Case Labs cases, not just the base price. I mean some of this stuff could be built in. Like the PSU bracket is sold separate on the STH10!! I think that the STH10 should at least one of those standard. I'd bet a lot of the savings from Merlin will come from not needing so many extras, integrating RAD and PSU brackets for example.

My STH10 was priced out to $890 delivered after all the extras I wanted/needed were put in the cart. However, my loop and build plan managed to max out the bays (Swiftech Maelstrom, Blu-Ray Burner, Fan Controller, Triple Intakes, HD Cage) and accounts for dual 120.4 rads. Actually, I'd have to give up some rad space, mod/art space, and an intake or two to get into a Merlin. And I would have to give up that waist high height that comes in handy for dropping in Blu-Rays. Not sure I'd want to do that even if Merlin was here now. Unless Merlin was somehow more sturdy feeling due to the compactness.

I wish I wasn't buying a house this year. Not only do I really want one of these cases (or possibly an M8, we'll have to see in the final design), but my core hardware is in pretty dire need of an upgrade. Still rockin' Core 2 65nm and a P965 launch chipset. Hopefully I can manage to squeeze in a few upgrades this year, I'd love one of these cases to house a half-new Core i7/SSD build, even if I do carry over my GTX 460 and HX520.

Please try and get us some spy pics of the SM5. I want to build a lan pc, but can't find a case. This one sounds like what I would want. If I see pictures of it, I might be able to hold out until the release date.

By the specs of the SM8 the SM5 is still going to be a pretty big case, not exactly lan-friendly... unless you like lugging around huge cases to lan. Personally I think the BitFenix Prodigy is great for lans.

The dimensions of the SM5 are smaller than my Switch 810. I would much rather have a powerful, cool running lan PC than a tiny one that overheats and doesn't perform well. Plus, there are no Mini-ITX mobos with good built in audio.
