So what's the "go to" modem/router combination these days?

Not sure about a modem, but is this router still viable in internet surfing/gaming?

Not sure if I have the use for a "N" router or not.

SUGGESTIONS FOR modem/router combos?

Comcast, so download speeds I imagine will be around 12-20 mbps.

WRT54GL is getting pretty stagnant.
Something like WNDR 3700 or Asus RT-N16 are farily common and offer good performance (ie> RT-N16 can route ~140 mbit between WAN and LAN).

Ya go with this for the modem
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825122009&Tpk=sb6120
I use this and works simple quick straight to the point and will last for a very long time

Router
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833162047

perfection right there honestly and the router has hopefully installed dd-wrt on there for you already so you dont have to
(perfection is over exaggeration but ya its a nicer router)
I have the
WZR-HP-G300nh Router and it works grand for me...

Honestly there is no best set up
that is just personally what i used when i was with comcast (had there best internet plan to)
but now that im back in az flagstaff they dont have comcast they have suddenlink which is located near lindale texas (tyler area) and it SUCKS
i hate that comcast wont touch flag at all
