Yeah that would be cool. In 7zip run the software, find the 700mb file, click on it once, then click the add button at the top. As for the settings make sure that the LZMA2 compression method is used to enable multithreading and make sure that you use 7z as the archive format. The other settings don't matter too much as long as you keep them the same for both tests. Timing how many seconds each one takes would make a nice comparison. Edit: There's also a benchmark option under tools you could run to see any difference in MIPS (let it run for at least 10 passes).

No and I doubt any one tries it soon. You should give it a go. Back up your stuff just in case it doesn't work. Its not going to blow it up or anything.

If you want some really CPU-intensive programs, you need to try emulation, in particular PCSX2 and/or Dolphin.

Personally I found Dolphin much easier to setup, but you need to rip the games yourself via a Wii + SD card + Homebrew Channel + CleanRip. With PCSX2 you can play directly from a game disc! (though it does require a PS2 BIOS file...)

Installed on my X4 system and reduced some boot up time from windows login to desktop.

Haven't got any BSOD or errors. Probably because it doesn't do anything for X4 Phenoms. I'm not saying the patch makes anything faster, just testing for the hell of it.

Just did some quick Skyrim tests and gain bout 6-7 min fps. Opening up the map fps running always around 48. Now hovers around 58..
Some heavy spots in the game gained fps too. This just all from my experience right now. ofcourse ymmv

I'm seeing some massive cpu utilization going on in winrar. Total cpu usage 65% I don't remember it being that high last time I looked at utilization prior to the patch. For multi threaded games, it's going to recognize every other core as primary and dumps the full load onto those cores as needed. In other words, no more resource sharing. It's the exact same thing as going into the bios and enabling one core per module. Except now we can get the same results while having all cores active.

I have to admit, even though these arent huge gains, this makes me feel pretty optimistic. Im teetering on the edge of switching over to Intel cause my aging motherboard is getting a little long in the tooth but seeing some promise with these makes me a lot happier. I wish somebody like Anand or Hard would do some official testing. Doubt they will cause theyre still in the "Bulldozer sucks so why retest" mode.

We're not going to see any difference in most synthetic benchmarks until they start utilizing the new instruction sets. This patch was just meant to make windows thread the cores properly. The patch has done its job, now it's up to developers to update/develop their software so it takes advantage of the new instruction sets. The sooner game developers move to 64 bit, the sooner we can start to see some improvement in games.
