Once Clock for Clock, Bulldozer 4 mod (8 core) can beat my Thuban, game on. /heres hoping for C3

It is good to see that a new threading command is giving Win 7 some improvements with the Bulldozer, if only they could match how *nix handled threading, these Dozers would fly.

Honest question: how much of a percentage improvement on IPC do you think would take for BD to be competitive with thuban, clock for clock?

Hard to say, since different tests show differences in designs.

It will be interesting to see a 4.2GHz 3.2GHz NB Phenom II face off clock for clock against a bulldozer chip at 4.2GHz in several tests.

I think this fix may have placed it on par with Phenom II clock for clock, maybe even slightly higher, but until we actually see some results from a reputable source it's just guessing on my part.

Perhaps as little s 5-7%, and as much as 10%.

Though transistor refinement, with later steppings I could imagin a C3, or even a D0 could really put some pain on the HIGHLY refined Stars core. The Thubans were the very last step in a very very long running arc, Bulldozer is but an infant. I strongly belive that just a C3 step may resolve most of the performance issues anyone may have.

As it stands Bulldozer is an amazing step foward for AMD, many people miss out on the fact that this thing just steamrolls applications that are properly threaded, the memory controller is far better, memory bandwidth is up, has a higher native supported speed.

I am eagerly awaiting what will happen next.

I cannot wait to see what will happen in the following months.

If the OP is willing, I am more then willing to do side by side tests with him, in public or private if he wishes to compile the data and present it all at once.

better left to proffesional benchers...
I can do good benchs with the patch, because i can uninstall it and reinstall in a minute to compare (SSDs are awesome)... basically it's the same system doing an after/before.

But... I have no access, nor the will, to switch cpus and bench them.

All in all, I'm on my netbook, correcting exams and browsing to make it less painful... but I wish I could bench a bit more tonight frown.gif
