Beyerdynamic DT880 Premium + Fiio E9

Hi there

I am looking at purchasing these pieces of hardware and using them in conjunction with each other. I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with either of these products or possibly even together? Also, I know that there are the the DT880 Premiums and the Pro's, what would you recommend? I've only been looking at the premiums so far.

Cheers

A few people seem to doubt the fact that the e9 will be able to power the 600 Ohm DT880's, is this true as I have been told that it will be fine?

Hip hop, rock, acoustic, alternative. However, I'm more after your opinions on the products I've chosen rather than suggesting something else. So, build quality, performance etc...

The E9 has no problem powering the DT880 to ear blistering levels! Plenty of power there. It's more that the mids of the DT880 are a little tame in compared to the bass and treble, but especially the treble. To make them sound more "human" and a little less clinical/mechanical, some people use a tube amp to warm them up and bring out the mids. That being said, that is not a bad combo. The DT880 is a very comfortable headphone with great build quality and Beyer has excellent customer service. You will no doubt enjoy the headphone, though it may not have the bass for hip hop or the aggressiveness for rock. If you don't find it a great for all all your genres, you could pair the DT880 w/ something like the HD598 which can be found for around $170 now, which pairs really well the the E9.

Music isn't my main priority, gaming is. So I need a nice all rounder really, nothing that's bass heavy (which is what I liked about my ATH AD700's). What are your opinions on the all rounder-ness of the DT880's?

Thanks for the information about the e9. Glad to hear that it's plenty powerful for the 600 Ohm version of the DT880's!

Would really rather go with the 600 ohm version if you can.
