First Timer Custom Computer Owner

Thread Starter
Hi, I just recently built my first computer. Here are the specs (wasn't sure what was needed, so I listed everything):

Cooler Master HAF X
Intel i5-2500K
Noctua 6 Dual Heatpipe (NH-D14)
EVGA GeForce GTZ 560 Ti
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
Corsair HX Professional Series 850-Watt
WD Caviar Black (750GB)
Corsair Force Series GT (120GB)
Asus Optical Drive
Microsoft Windows 7

My first concern is the case fans. On the EFI BIOS screen, my CHA_FAN 2 is running at a low RPM and is always in red.
375
My front fan is connected to that CHA_FAN 2. What could possibly be causing the problem? What can I do to fix it?

My next concern is CPU cooling. How do I know if I applied the thermal paste correctly? If I didn't, what should I do to fix it? I'm always freaking out, because when I'm playing SC2 or LoL, I see my CPU jump up in temperature. For LoL, it jumps as high as 34C, and for SC2, though I haven't played any games on it yet, I've seen it go around high 30s C. Is this all normal temperature ranges and for it to jump like that? I had assumed that it was just because since I'm playing a game, I would sort of expect it to jump up.

Lastly, I do plan to overclock my rig, but not anytime soon, and once I do, not anything too extreme (for an example, I'm thinking 4GHz-5GHz for my CPU). If there are any recommended guides and/or software/programs I should start using, it would greatly be appreciated.

(I do have more concerns, but I can't remember them).

Regarding your CPU, it is running very cool, even on load. Your chip can go well higher than that so don't worry. Nice rig you have there

My temperatures on idle usally sit around high 10s to low 20s, so I'm concern the temperature jump is something I should worry about. Especially, once I do decide to overclock my rig, the temperatures jumps (if they persist) would be worse, no?

Also, I've been monitoring my temperature during a session of LoL. Here's a small snip-it:

There are a lot of temperature jumps; some of the jumps are pretty extreme; but the temperature is fairly consistent. Is that all normal stuff?

And thank you for the compliment; I but a lot of effort and thought into it. biggrin.gif

Also, can you answer some of my earlier questions as well, if possible?

An addition to my concerns: even on idle, I see some random extreme jumps, like this one:

Just want to make sure that isn't something I should be concerned about. Also my previous concerns weren't addressed, so if anyone can, that would also be great.

AI suite is BS !!
you do not need that. i have almost a same exact setup scept my case is azza hurrican 2000 and my psu is 550 biggrin.gif

use this for temps.
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

ai suite shows temps almost 10 degrees below, and where you are right now is awesome !!!
here is mine right now with noctua too. thumb.gif

as for chassis fans, i do not know about that.
as for OC'ing, i will post my settings shortly, i have it OC'd to 4.5 GHz, runs stable. let me grab screen shots for you.

p.s. do you plan on running 4.5 all the time or like how i do it, when i am running heavy duty programs, i just load the OC profile from bios.

here are my settings for 4.5 thumb.gif

when you are testing it, to ensure stability, have C3/C6 disabled, run prime for like 2 hours and if it is running without crashing or randsom restarts, you are good, go ahead and enable C3/C6 from bios. biggrin.gif

don't forget you are going to be using realtemp not ai suite for an eye on temps.
my temps never cross 60 degrees when running prime test.

download from here.

good luck. let us know how it goes.

you can go higher than 4.5 if your temps are coming good.
