Longest run for my desktop was about 3 weeks, 6 days.... my wifes HTPC, well... I have the HDD from it and it has... 1201.83 days in a power up state, or 28,844 hours on, in the 3 years it's been running it has been powered off for update restarts and a move from Florida to Kansas, and again from one side of town to another....

Need proof? Here it is... biggrin.gif
700

edit: what, I need to shut it down? Tried that, power bill dropped about $20 shutting it down nightly.... I realized I don't need to smoke that bad and just leave it on... too impatient

I actually misread this for how long do you keep a PC for.

I typically don't keep it ON for more than a day at a time

Mine is in sleep whenever I'm not using it, but I only restart when I have to. I'm on a laptop so I occasionally hibernate when I travel with it but for general moving from one room to another or going to class I just use sleep mode. I only completely shut down for repairs or maintenance...which has been more than I would like thanks to incompetent HP techs.

I usually leave mine on, I finish downloads while I sleep or am away, or use it for other work that doesn't need me to be present like Encoding or Archiving stuff. I'm always in a Ventrilo server too, and like to keep the chat open at all times.

I do not have an SSD, so I prefer to not deal with the boot times when it's turned off.

I don't really watch Television or have anything else on a lot that draws much power, so I like to think of it as not being very wasteful. I do turn my monitors off whenever I go away for more than a few minutes though as funny as it may seem.

Keeping it running all the time also serves as a constant reminder that your hardware is stable so the next time someone tries to say Windows crashes all the time and blue screens every day you've got the right to laugh and can say "No it doesn't, my computer has been on all week with no problems, it's only off when I upgrade hardware or install Windows Updates."

I used to keep mine running all the time, but then I got conscious of my power bill and started letting it sleep after 1 hour of no activity.

Now that I have a SSD though, I just turn it off when I leave the room.biggrin.gif
