Arch Linux and Drivers Help

Thread Starter
So I just finished installing arch linux and put openbox on it. Almost everything works but I can't seem to get the display drivers workign properly. Heres the write up on installing arch on my netbook https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Eee_PC_1005HA

Did this:
Quote:
# pacman -S xorg-server xf86-video-intel xf86-input-evdev xf86-input-synaptics
And added
Quote:
exec /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp -dpi 96
to etc/X11/xinit/

I also created xorg.conf in /etc/X11 and in it I put
Quote:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Builtin Default intel Device 0"
Driver "intel"
Option "FramebufferCompression" "on"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "Tiling" "on"
EndSection

Now everytime I boot I get two network managers pop up and they both say they connected to my wireless. I don't know how that happened but I'm new to openbox so I don't know how to delete one of them right clicking doesn't show any remove options. So there's that and the display driver. When I go to preferences - screen resolution it only offers 800x600. Help please.

The trick with Arch is to do as little work as possible and only modify it when something is not working as expected. If you go adding random stuff from the wiki you'll just break it before you're even sure its working. You usually don't need an Xorg.conf for intel graphics. I don't have one for my T400, even though the T400 wiki page lists a massive one.

Also the network thing, its likely you're running nm-applet twice. You don't need to add it to any kind of startup, since it starts automatically with the networkmanager daemon.

If you're using wicd you do need to run wicd-client, so check if its being started automatically in two different places.

My suggestion try the drivers from the ATI site , I use Mint with the ATI Catalyst 11.12 and whenever I reboot my system my resolution changes back to 1024x768 and mine is an assembled PC.

First things first, this is a new addition to openbox:

A user may also create his own startup script to be executed after the system-wide script by creating the file ~/.config/openbox/autostart. This file is not provided by default and must be created by the user.

Further instructions are available in the Help:Autostart article at the official Openbox site.
Note: The autostart files used to be named autostart.sh prior to OpenBox 3.5.0. While these scripts will presently still work, users who are upgrading are advised to drop the .sh extension.
Autostart directory

Openbox also starts any *.desktop files in /etc/xdg/autostart - this happens regardless of whether a user startup script is present. nm-applet, for example, installs a file at this location, and may cause it to run twice for users with the usual (sleep 3 && /usr/bin/nm-applet --sm-disable) & in their startup script. There is a discussion on managing the effects of this at [2].

As for your resolution problem I would suggest looking at this:

He's using Intel graphics, why would he want ATI drivers? kookoo.gif

OP: Can you try renaming your xorg.conf file, then running "Xorg -configure" as root? Actually, that might be deprecated - I think it's just "startx" now, with no xinit file in place (under ~)

Ahhh.

I just Google Image Searched her and found a Deviant Art page: http://rav777.deviantart.com/journal/We-all-love-Redhead-Beauty-II-216745010
Some NSFW images in there though (if you're signed into Deviant Art in the office)
