Northbridge overclocking?

So lately i have been playing battlefield 3 and for my set up my fps seemed quite low, especially in the back to karkand expansion pack

My system is:
amd phenom ii x4 955 4.2 ghz
990fz sabertooth motherboard
msi gtx 580 lightning
850w psu
8gb ddr3 1600mhz ram

From watching my gpu usage when playing battlefield 3 at ultra with msaa off i noticed that the cause of my low fps was a cpu bottleneck. But i thought even at 4.2ghz a cpu bottleneck? something must be wrong. After some thinking and guessing i found that my northbridge was the bottleneck. When i overclocked it from 2000mhz to 2600mhz my fps went up and incredible amount. In areas where i was getting 35 fps i now get 48-55 fps. In areas where i got 50-60 fps i now get 70-85 fps. However if i leave msaa off my gpu usage jumps around from 85-99% in a sort of chaotic manor. Before my Northbridge overclock i sometimes would go down to 65-70%. With msaa on x4 my gpu usage is 100%. So i wonder if i brought my Northbridge higher my performance would increase more. The problem is at 2800mhz my computer wont boot i even tried adjustion voltages i and i though that the phenom ii could easily reach 3000mhz? Is there something i am doing wrong?

What voltage's are you running? how many sticks of RAM are you using to get your 8 GB's? what are temps? I have been fiddling with getting my NB to 3000 too. seems to just take some voltage on the NB, 1.35v

That's your HT Link.. You can increase the voltage to it to make it clock higher.

i have 2x4gb sticks of ram rated for speeds of 1866 at 1.65 volts. Temps are normal and my Northbridge auto voltage sets it to 1.35 volts when it runs at 2600mhz

what would my HT link do for me and i heard overclocking it would decrease stability and have no performance gain

He doesnt know what he's talking about.

PH2 will bottleneck even in high end single GPU situations, at times. People will want to disagree, but i own a PH2 rig, and you've seen it with your own eyes. So now that that's out of the way, it sounds like your about maxed out. You can try more NB voltage, but 2600mhz is a good spot to be. 4200/2600 is are good settings on a PH2, but try pushing more voltage for 2800.

You may be at your limit. It might be time to start saving for a 2500k thumb.gif

I really hope so. There was a rumor about B3 right after Bulldozer released, but I haven't heard anything since. If not, there's Piledriver at the end of the year.
