Cost of DDR400

Thread Starter
Can anybody tell me why the cost of DDR400 RAM has shot up so much in the past couple months? I mean does the cost of commodities really affect the cost of RAM? Or is it because manufacturers are spending more time making DDR2 types of RAM? Maybe both? Sucks because I wanted to buy more RAM, and will have to pay more now.

All ram shot up...
I bought mine on 8/22 for $256...it shot up to over $350... now selling for $317. And that's DDR2

Also, don't add RAM... sell what you have now, and get a 2x1GB kit..better than running 4x512MB (All sorts of issues with teh AMD memory controller when you do that)

This kit looks nice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220084

I'd like to sell what I have to help me buy a 2x1gb kit, but I can't post in the classifieds because I dont have "35 reps." Any suggestions?

I think it's all marketing by ram companies. They know that most AMD systems use DDR, but the new AMD and all socket 775 intel boards use DDR2, it's just a way of making us upgrade. They want the standard to become DDR2 so they don't have to spend money making DDR anymore. And that's why DDR500 has shot up $80 *cough*

RAM prices go up and down every 6 months in a very nice sine function looking sort of way. Wait a month or two, and prices will be down again. Either that or RAM is follows the opposite of gas prices...cheap gas, high gas...high-priced RAM, cheap gas.

Check ebay for RAM, I got a kit of GEIL ONE BH5 for $102 shipped. Which is beyond a steal. That such a good deal that I feel I should be locked up for it lol.
