i5 2500k or Pii X6 1035t for video encoding?

Thread Starter
I currently have the following

Pii X6 1035t
Asus M5A97
8Gb 4 usaeable
Win 7 32 Bit
Geforce GT 430

Will the i5 2500k be signifigantly faster regardless it is 4 core, no HT than my 1035t at 3.00 ghz? Reason I ask is I keep seeing the i5 2500k puts a hurting on my 1035t. I will be encoding video so take that into acount, virtually no gaming.

Thanks

Bulldozer will outperform both for encoding.

i dont know if there will be an increase when rendering. in gaming yes. but in video encoding/rendering i think it'll be more like a side grade. a Phenom II X6 is fine for video stuff because of its six-core. why change?

agreed, not meaning to be an intel fan boy as i belive in everyones oppion, but if you went intel, go an i7 2600k or non k for video encoding due to hyper threading.. if you want to stay with AMD go bulldozer thumb.gif

What are you using to encode your videos?

Are you doing it for movies, or youtube videos? What format are you using?

The i5-2500k will beat a 3Ghz x6, but only by a few fps in something like handbrake, the x8 bulldozer chips will beat the i5-2500k in said tasks, but by only a few fps (and use a ton more power).

i5 overclocked will beat a stock i7.

GpGPU encoding is far better than handbrake if speed is a concern, badaboom is almost twice as fast as handbrake, but the image quality isn't as good, however the file sizes are much more manageable for uploads.

Quick Sync destroys everything, even a 2011 rig with a GTX 580 will bow before an i5-2500k + Quick Sync.

Videos I will be streaming on amazon s3/cloudfront

I was using handbrake but man a 1.68 gb file took 33 minutes, 1200kbs, 2 pass, H.264 spittin out an mp4, those times are simply not going to work.

the X6 overclocked will beat any quad core/quad thread proc in video encoding. Bulldozer pulls too much power to be efficient for encoding, so i say oc the heck out of that x6 and save your money for an SSD or a better board if you have a crappy board.

I been playin with the oc BUT the multipler is locked and stability with only FSB increases was a bit hectic. What about a move to a 1090 or 1100 and clock those? Better yet, what is the best thing I can do to slash time?

Thanks
